Open area? There are a lot of states with open area. If you're looking for flat, plain land and a lot of it, try somewhere in the midwest. A lot of Alaska is completely untouched by people. I don't think you're are going to be able to find the answer you're looking for with a question like you've asked. There are simply to many factors!

If you like open area, then I would say Idaho. Fresh air, clear blue sky's and some farming land. The snake river is beautiful in the summer and great for fishing. A great place to get away in Idaho would be at Redfish lake. It is my favorite place in Idaho. People have different opinions, but I like Idaho.
