First of all, it helps if you believe such a place exists. After that, it depends on your particular religious beliefs. My faith teaches that people who are righteous, no matter what their particular religion, will be with my god someday, in the world-to-come. To be righteous means to learn from your mistakes to try to live a better life. Others have different beliefs, obviously.

I guess what it comes down is.. what works best for you. I don't think it's a "one size fits all" kind of deal.

The way to heavan is through the blood of Jesus Christ.
1.) You must realize that you have sinned against God. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
2.) Because of your sin you owe a penalty. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We all have a natural death, but there is a second death. Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

3.) We all would agree that not everybody will go to heaven, however, the bible says there is only one way.

John 14:6 where Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Since we can't get there on our own, God provided a way.
Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus Christ shed his blood and died on the cross to pay our sin penalty.

4.) You must accept the risen Savior, Jesus Christ as your only hope to heaven
No amount of good works, church membership, baptism, etc. can save you. Ephesians 2:8, 9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast." Jesus paid your penalty on the cross, rose from the dead, and then ascended up to heaven where He is right now. He promises that if you will call on Him, believing He will save your soul, He will give you eternal life right now and write your name in the book of life. Romans 10:9, 10, 13 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Jesus came to be the payment for your sin. By accepting Him you choose life and you choose eternity with him. Would you like to go to heaven and have eternal life? If so, all it takes is for you to confess with your mouth that you are a sinner, you can't get to heaven on your own, that you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sin penality, and invite him into your life as your personal Saviour.
