I like a guy just like you do and I'm wondering the same thing! I'm planning to first start by asking him if he likes anyone, but don't think this is simple for me becuase I'm pretty shy. I think you should do the same thing by asking if he likes anyone, if the person likes someone in ur grade or class and stuff like that I hope ur life is a little better from this info.

Don't have your friend tell him. That's kind of childish. Just let him know your interested by flirting. Then if you get a good vibe tell him you like him. Don't be like " Hey I like you". If you are embarrassed you can say, " This is kind of embarrassing but I wanted to let you know that I think your a really nice guy and wanted to get to know you a little better" If you want him to have it give him your number and see what happens.
A lot of times guys will think it's cute that you are embarrassed. Plus honesty is always the best policy!

If you're a girl then I guess just tell him. What's the worst that could happen? At most he'll spit his food on you out of shock or something. But if you're a guy... make sure you're both on the same frequency.

you praise him up & say he's clever etc when the chance comes up
say he looks nice or smells nice
be real nice to him & he will get the hint in time you like him
