My philosophy on feminism is that it's general principles are great. However, the mainstream ideas for it make it a misnomer. *Most* of the women I've encountered who are feminists claim they are so much better than men and that they don't need men in their lives, but everything they do is based on how much better than a man they are or could be. So many of them base their entire lives on trying to be better than men and their every thought is about men and their (mens') inadequacies that they're not really even improving themselves.
So as a whole, feminism is a great thing. It teaches that women shouldn't be second class citizens but have every right to be treated with respect and to view themselves with respect. It teaches them to view themselves as equals with men, and if you read it properly, it teaches us we can be equal to ourselves.

Feminism as it is practised is an expression of weakness by the weak. All women need to do is to know they are no inferior and perform as such... actions speak louder than words. Once women prove through their actions that indeed they are no inferior, that they are just different, there would be no need for the so-called feminism. The right to be equal can neither be begged for nor snatched up..... it is to be earned and applies equally to men and women... for men in the areas that they can't match women and vice versa.

I'm a bit tired of feminists that twists the whole concept to the point where it's all about women and being to be some sort of elite. Personally I want equality not superiority.
I want the right to be a woman without feeling inferior for being what I am. Equality is accepting that men and women are different and have different needs. I don't want to be forced to somehow live up to men and try to be, act, and work like a man.
Feminists have a tendency to try and make me feel like I'm not worth much simply because I want to live a more "traditional" womans life. And by that create not only a "us against them" mentality between women and men, but they also makes it out to be "some women are worth more than others" simply because some women decides to live lives that they are comfortable in.

Well there are many types of feminists and various groups within feminism. The main two are radical and liberal. I personally believe that most women are liberal. They want the same rights as men and believe in most things ordinary women believe in etc. However, radical feminists are a whole different story!.. They are the, say, extremists. They believe that for example, abortion should be legal because it is a woman's right to do what she likes with her body. They also believe in pornography because once again, they believe in a woman's freedom. No restrictions if you like. There are many ethical issues involved with radical feminists such as abortion etc. They also believe that we are being attacked by a male dominated world and ridiculous things like that. I believe that liberal feminists are the "normal", everyday type of women who just want the same, fair shot in life!

I am puzzled by Feminism. I naively thought, being previously married to a devote feminist, that feminism was a movement to prove equality, but it appears to me now, that it has developed into Female chauvinism, bent on proving not only superiority, but on showing the male to be a subspecies.

It is about having equal access to power, and understanding how gender roles hinder that access to power. It's not just about having legal access to power, but understanding why women still still aren't equally distributed amongst power holders.
It's about the traditional work of women not being as valued as the work of men. Why are mothers and caretakers not respected the same way a business person is.
A person who looks deeply into gender roles and how those gender roles were created originally, will understand how important feminist thought and research is needed.

feminism isn't about empowerment but rather a realization of women being the complementary beings to men

It is two contradictory arguments:
1. women are the same as men (this is for male consumption);
2. women are uniquely different and in fact superior (this is for female use).
The term 'feminazis' was well chosen because many (not all) feminists are totally undistinguished people who want to seem big to themselves through membership in this 'elite' group.
