as we're aware Montreal and most notably Toronto have made issues about the NFL but they have CFL teams which would interfere with each other and cause one (the NFL) or both to close shop, defeating the purpose of it, but Toronto more or less just got thier Argos back here recently and adding the NFL would just complicate things, but Ottawa has been with out a CFL team for a little while and intrest in the CFL and football whichever it may be are wayning, but with Los Angeles already pretty much guaranteed a team with thier massive market waiting but without a stadium up to NFL standards it seemn at least 5-10 years off which is more than enough time to get Ottawa's Frank Clair Stadium well up to the standards and fitting the criteria why not? San Antonio doesen't exactly prove i guess worthy you could say because if we can all remember the San Antonio Riders anyone? they had the 2nd smallest fan following of all 11 of the WLAF teams in '91 and '92 and there are 2 teams in state, why?

L.A. is getting a team "in the near future"? Since when? Who is moving there? Who is starting an expansion franchise there? When was this announced or when did solid rumors come out about this?
Then you go on to say that the mythical L.A. team is "at least 5-10 years off". Is that "the near future"?
Do you seriously think that Ottawa would ever get an NFL team? Toronto supports both an NBA and MLB team, they'd be the likely Canadian candidate (if there is even one), despite the Argos recent return. Ottawa isn't even a major NHL market (in American terms), why would the NFL go there?
How about Oklahoma City, which is close to luring one of TWO NBA franchises to move there (Seattle and New Orleans)? For a state that is BIG into college football, the NFL is the next logical step.
I agree that L.A., being the second largest media market, is the most logical place to move a team to or start a new one. But why hasn't it happened yet? How hard would it be to build an investment group for an L.A. team? The NFL wants a team there but why haven't they been able to do it yet? It's one of the most bizarre situations in modern sports but it exists.

A few quick points:
1. LA is not getting an NFL franchise any time soon. The local politicians insist on an NFL team playing in the LA Coliseum. The NFL is not interested in a venue where parking often consists of parking on someone's lawn and walking several blocks through South Central Los Angeles.
2. USC plays at the LA Coliseum. All games are sellouts and the Trojans have a massive local following. The Trojan football games preempt Angel baseball games on the local ESPN radio station.
3. UCLA plays at the Rose Bowl. They have a large local following.
4. Between USC and UCLA, most football fans don't notice that there is no NFL franchise in the LA area.
5. At the end the Rams and Raiders did not sell out home games and the second largest TV market in the country was blacked out. That's bad for TV business which is what drives the NFL.

Even though 32 teams is the right amount for the NFL, with every division in each conference having four teams, the NFL will expand soon. The cities that will be in the hunt will be:
LA-too large of a population in the area to be ignored.
San Antonio-I have my doubts. The Alamodome is not a
great facility. Austin could be the better Texas option.
Portland-would make a nice rival for the Seahawks.
Salt Lake City-could make a nice rival for the Broncos.
Toronto-not sure if it would be in the NFL's or the Bill's best
interest.
What about southern cities like Birmingham, Memphis or Orlando? Seems as though those cities have had teams of every rival league to the NFL.

The NFL want to much for an expansion team. There are several groups ready to invest in a team for LA, but the taxpayers are not interested in the cost of putting a stadium in place for the stadium.

The NFL want the tax payers to pay for the infrastructure which cost million upon millions of dollars to do. There might be houses to condemn for the project, streets to reroute, so businesses would be upset until things got built back.

Houses in LA start at $350,000. do you know how much it would cost just to relocate people that lived hear the place they want to build the arena. That prevents the politicians here from taking this crap to the tax payers.

The next thing is there is gonna be a law suit from Al Davis of the Raiders who still claim LA as his territory so the NFL would have to give him some money to prevent a law suite that the new owner would be saddle with.

Now you have San Diego stating that they televise their games into the LA area so they are trying to claim the area also. You might also consider the rams they might see that Al Davis stand to get some money and want in on the action also.

The other thing is there are too many things to do in LA so for the 10-15 years the NFL has been gone we have learned to live without them. We get 3-5 games per weekend because no one claim the area for TV except the Chargers are trying to do so, without very much luck.

Most people in LA don't want an expansion team because it will take them too long to start winning. By that time the fan base would have been lost. Look what they did to the Raiders when they cease to win. No one went to see them. The Raiders in the last two years in LA could not give away tickets.

Now that USC is having such a good football team we already have the next best thing. Each Sat that USC play at home we have 92,000 plus at the home games. So who need an NFL team?

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

First of all I think Ottawa would be a good spot, since they always say world champs, but then are we ready to have a team in China and or Japan to. Next Texas will always be known as the Cowboys state (poor Houston) and these Riders did they win any thing?

I don't see the NFL expanding anytime soon considering that they're pretty content with the setup they have now. There's been rumors of a current team possibly moving to L.A. and I know that Tampa Bay's owner, Malcolm Glazer has entertained the thought of moving the team to L.A.

With that being said I don't see an expansion team in Canada. Maybe somewhere out in the midwest (they love football out there).
