I mean, maybe if we didn't have this unrealistic idea that there is some Nervana waiting on us after we die, we might try to learn to get along here on earth and make things better for us and everyone else instead of making so much war and hate in the world. In other words, if we KNEW this was the only life there is, we MIGHT try to make it the best we can.

RIGHT ON! I totally agree! Religion has no place on this earth if we want to ever have real peace.

Puzzeled ... I think I know what you mean, but I respectfully disagree. I do not feel that religion and faith-based ideologies are the sole reasons for the political conflicts we witness every day.

To a certain extent, you may be correct. If I understand you correctly, you seem to think that religious zealotry causes the debate to become overly intensified. Instead of being able to reach a compromise, the intense and steadfast opinions of the religiously motivated people encourages them to "fight on," so to speak, without any willingness to compromise.

Is that what you mean? Well, you may have a point there. While I respect people who feel strongly about their points of view, we all need to remember that without compromise there can never be peace or consensus.

It's still too hard for me to tell for sure, but I agree there is some merit to your point.

Yes. There are too many end of the world types running around in our country right now, who really believe all that stuff happening is meant to be and is the begining of the end of the world.

I'll never understand some Religious folks. It's not enough for them to have their own beliefs and individual relationship with God. Nope they feel compelled to have the rest of us believe and act as they believe.

It's a severe pain in the backside.

Depends. The morals and ethics side of religion may help society and government by giving us useful rules to live by. Unfortunately the intolerant and bullying side of some religions do ruin or society and government. So if they just stuck to being a moral guide for people, then maybe they wouldn't be half bad.

The misapplication of religion and the use of religion as a cover for immoral and outright reprehensible activity are symptoms of a ruinous society, not a cause.

Pay attention, correlation!=causation. Go read your Constitution, these fundamentalist bastards are trying to subvert it and institute an oligarchic imperial theocracy.

With our government putting down religion all the time, how can you possibly say that? Did you see the latest, the ACLU is complaining that the Marine Corps, before going on duty, bows their heads in prayer. They want to stop the soldiers from praying before going into harms way and you say religion is running the government, I don't think so.

I also think we maybe need more religion in our society, we're running rampant through the streets with crime, and wrong doings or, do you think this is the product of religion.
I think you'd better rethink your position. We need help but, not with less religion.

some one is sure screwed up in their thinking , the only religion that I can think of that teaches evil is the Muslims and the Jewish Talmud, every other religion teaches goodness, forgiveness, to honor god, and your fellow man, in other words obey the golden rule, f,y,i, do unto others as you would have them do unto you" how can you find any thing wrong with that?? and what has happened to our society since the good old gov, has taken prayer out of school , and practically destroyed the christian faith? how many of our children really know right from wrong?? try to under stand what you are saying, as it don't hold up except for some idiots.

I totally agree there is supposed to be a clear separation between Church and state but the line is so blurred anymore its like the collective of people just don't care anymore.

I think so. Bush sending missionaries to Africa to convert people into CHristians with AMerican Tax money, is so wrong. First its our tax money. Second it would prove to the Arab world that Osama is right and America is out to attack and destroy the Muslim world. You know what happens when people believe more of Osama.
