Maybe it is because he knows that Harry needs help. He knew that Harry needs to fullfill the prophecy or at least help in finishing the prophecy which is -- 'No one will live until one dies -- talking about Voldemort and Harry]...
He also cares about Harry because Dumbledore already knew Harry's parents and of course, he liked Lily and James...
And maybe because... --- he is just too good....

He knew from the beginning that Harry possess the same powers that Voldemort has (when he received the scar on his forehead).
By nurturing Harry, I guess Dumbledore would like to undo something because he's some sort of a major factor on why Voldemort became bad. So he once raised evil that ran wild, he now raises someone good (Harry) to battle with evil.

I don't think dumbledore could have done anything in his life that he would want to undo by helping out Harry. I think its purely love and care that is making him fight Voldemort with Harry. After all, he was James and Lily's secret keeper.
Dumbledore was a powerful man, and that is why I feel that there is a motive behind his death (faked or real).

it's a children's story with not much depth or logic of certain areas. I think this is one of those areas that makes no sense, but you have to accept it in order to enjoy the books.
What I've noticed is that there always is an amazing set of coincidences that just happens to put one or all 3 of Harry, Hermione, Ron in the right place/time to overhear or see something.
If you actually read one of the HP books while judging just *how many* of these coincidences there are, it's just too much to believe if it were an adult fiction piece.
You just have to not think about these things too much and accept that HP books are not perfectly explained in a logical way.

I think DD wants to help Harry because he knows of the danger that Harry is ultimately in.

Its because Dumbledor has the hots for Harry...thus by helping him, he wants to impress Harry and get him into his bed!
