my toaster is getting pretty gunky. sure you can take the crumb trays out and shake the darn thing and get what you can out but, a lot of it is still inside. years ago they used to sell dime size brushes to reach way down inside and sweep away the crumbs without any damage to the coils. i thought about compressed air but i don,t want to go to the hardware and purchase an air compressure just for that job.

get a nipple brush from the baby section at walmart or in the fish department get an aquarium tube cleaning brush, has a longer handle, then you can scrub the inside, dry though, then you can clean the outside with windex and a paper towel. you can also use the canned air that you blow gunk out of your computer with.

All I every did was unplug it, clean the crumb tray, and wipe down the outside with a little Windex. Then I got a toaster oven, which was much easier.

You can get compressed air in a can (like people use for cleaning computer keyboards), but I would be afraid the air might drive the crumbs further into the coils.

To some extent, the trapped crumbs should burn or get smaller as they get dryer, and drop down into the crumb tray.

You might try using a clean toothbrush, too.

Whatever you do, make sure the toaster is unplugged, and don't use water on the electrical parts!

TOASTER OVEN
Basic maintenance consists of periodically cleaning out crumbs and wiping down the interior and exterior.
Interior: Remove racks; wash them in warm, soapy water. If the inside of the toaster has a nonstick coating, wipe it with a cleaning pad that's labeled safe for this purpose. On a bare metal interior, you can use soap-filled steel wool. To avoid scratching a porcelain surface (or making it more difficult to clean the next time food cooks on), use nothing stronger than a nylon pad. Some toaster-oven interiors may look rough and feel gritty, indicating a continuous-clean surface that automatically burns off food residue. Do nothing more to this type of surface than wipe it with a damp cloth.
Exterior: Since most toaster ovens are plastic or painted steel, use only a nonabrasive liquid cleaner. If burned food discolors the paint on a toaster oven, a degreasing cleaner may minimize the discoloration, but nothing will remove it entirely.

There is no easy way to clean a toaster you just have to be vigilant and clean it everytime you use it, what I do is take out the trays and brush them with a toothbrush and shake out some crumbs the rest will burn off and next time you clean your toaster they too will fall out. Good Luck !

I unplug it, turn it over and shake it into the trash. Then I bang it gently against the side of the kitchen trash can and shake it some more. Anything still left inside after all that gets to stay there. Maybe it'll come out next time.

If you do go poking something into the toaster, just make sure it's unplugged.

I turn mine upside down over the sink, take the door right off the bottom and scrub that with a scouring pad. Then I carefully use a butter knife to drag out the bigger pieces that may have gotten caught inside. Then shake it good. Put the door back on and then wipe the outside of it with a cloth sprayed with 409 glass and surface cleaner. It cleans the outside and makes it shine too.

On almost all toasters, there's a small trap door on the bottom that you can open, and it will allow you to get all the crumbs out. I would recommend NOT getting it wet inside at all. This could lead to a nasty shock or a fire.
Please unplug it before opening the little trap door and wiping it out. Just use a moist paper towel. Not even dripping, just moist.
Good luck!-

Turn it upside down. bang it on the counter or over the trash can. Don't worry about it, if there are any bugs or spiders in there ,t hey will leave when you turn it on. Some toasters have a little tray that you should remove and dump out occasionally If it catches on fire, unplug it , carry it outside by the cord and let it burn out..

its easy .
first you go to the store and go to where they have the toasters and stuff aisle.
then you grab the toaster .
then you take out money and buy it
or you can clean it with water and soap but be careful not to accidently leave it plugged in
