Before colonization Natives had an advanced, civilized, and moral society. (Contrary to popular stereotype).
Natives had advanced agriculture, advanced astronomy, and advanced oral traditions. Their education was primarily by oral tradition. Only two U.S. Native tribes had a brew, No other tribe had any form of alcohol. The tribes that did have brew used it only in ceremony. Tobacco and other substances were used in ceremony and not for recreation. Men and women held equal roles. You hear about chiefs but there also were clan mothers. Things such as rape and domestic abuse barely existed. The environment was not damaged by Native people. They were living well.

During Colonization:
Some tribes were killed off (Genocide)
Natives cultural life was severely disturbed (Cultural Genocide)
They were Raped, Tortured, and Kidnapped.
Much Land Theft occurred.
New illnesses were introduced.
Natives were moved off their land and away from sacred sites and ways of surviving.
War was introduced. Some type of "war" existed pre-colonization but it wasn't hate filled. It was what is called friendly war. You can look more into this.
Kidnapping was in the form of boarding schools for the most part. Native children were stolen from their homes and put into White Christian boarding schools. They were physically punished for doing anything cultural. When they spoke their language they would either be beat, their tongue would be pierced, and in extreme circumstance they might have fingertips cut off. A lot of sexual abuse occurred as well. This resulted in a loss of many Native languages and ceremonies.
Alcohol was introduced to Natives. Made land theft easier

After Colonization (contemporary):
- Natives now make up less than 1% of the U.S. population
- Natives have highest statistics of alcoholism, teen suicide, diabetes (cause can't eat tradit. foods), violent death, infant mortality etc.. all as a result of colonization
- Natives are struggling to revive their languages and ceremonies. The Native American Freedom of Religion Act was just passed in 1993. Even though the first amendment allows freedom of religion, this didn't apply to Natives until 1993. They are still struggling with this.
- Natives have the highest rates of poverty (because of continued oppression)
- Cultural ignorance about Natives is rampant
- Natives experience intergenerational trauma. Trauma passed down from generation to generation. This came from colonization and still exists today because of continued oppression.

I can give you more info. too if you'd like.

they are called native americans by the way...

lets say they were overwhelmly friendly to the europeans and did not know that europeans planned to conquer their land. then the europeans kept coming and building new settlements and well, people didn't want indians in their neighborhood. so the indians were segragated and the indians didn't have much choice because they only had arrows and sticks to fight and the europeans had guns and cannons and larger forces.

pretty much, the native americans were screwed.
