I am going through the same thing. I haven't spoken to my three best friends in a year and we recently began communicating again.
I apologized and we cried together. I told them how I had made a huge mistake and I would do anything to gain their trust again. It still feels weird, but I hope that time will heal the break between us.
Don't let an opportunity to apologize slip through your fingers. Swallow your pride and make things right. You don't want to waste a year or more of a great friendship like I did. It is not worth it.

One thing I have learned about forgiveness. We don't ask for forgiveness, we should win our forgiveness. If you have done something bad to someone, try on doing something extremely nice to the person. When they decided to compare the damages of your actions with its benefits and realize you are somebody that even thou all your imperfections, still Worth to have around, they will forgive you and appreciate your friendship. Remember, no one is perfect but it doesn't mean it has to be so imperfect too, and recognize it by doing something to become a better person...at least, for those who really cares about you.

Why not muster up the courage and say it to their face? You might be surprised at their response. Go on, take the plunge and all will be forgiven.
