I have been a firefighter for 34 years--I see death and injury everyday at work---it reminds me that life is fragile, and it can be over in a snap---so be nice, respect everyone, and just smile. Why not interview a cop and a fireman in your town--ask about the aspect of the job that takes in the preserving of life and how sometimes people can mess up and really do needless harm to others and themselves. life is precious--you only get one chance here on earth....should be a good composition. good luck

Almost every day of my life up until I was 17 years old. I met a guy and within a week moved in with him. I wouldnt have moved in with him so fast if it wasnt for my dad. My 'daddy' has always been a little bipolar/scitzo(sp?) and apparently has been on meth since he was about 25, which i just found out when i was 16. Anyway.. my dad was real abusive. I BEAT my mom my sister and my brother all the time for things like:
If there were leftovers in the fridge for more than a day
If dinner wasnt what he happened to want that day
pretty much anything that he that.. he would say off the wall things and act like they were true and beat us for it.
He used to threaten to kill us. he had a hand held saw.. thing.. and one time threatened to cut off my hand with it if i got on the computer ever again in my LIFE..
He sexually abused my sister and i since i was about.. 5.. (without my mom knowing THAT part, of course)
He 'pistol whipped' us.. held guns to our heads..
this list could go on forever..
But the point is, it would make an interesting book.. or short story.. and would 'shed light' on domestic violence.. I wish i could help, but i dont have the sources.. :D
good luck finding what youre looking for

Seeing Apollo 12 take off from a mile away in Florida in 196- oh crud... ok wait... I was in second grade... got to miss school to go to Florida... dang! 1968 or 69... can't remember the exact date... but I'll NEVER forget the INCIDENT!
The sky was black in the middle of the afternoon on the day before, as a storm was brewing. We looked at the NASA museum... at rockets and spacesuits and such...
My dad was a doctor and knew the guy in charge of the Air Force at that time (there's an official name, but I don't remember)... andyway, so we got invited to go to Cape Canaveral to see Apollo 12 take off... We were in a motor home and were allowed to park a mile away... Dad had his movie camera and taped the rocket taking off... it shook the earth so much, that the movie would later show a clear black and white movie of the rocket engines firing up, then the whole picture goes shakey and falls over, then rights itself as the rocket heads for the sky...

The moment I read you Q, lot of incidents started flashing in my mind. Very good, I am loving it.
After a pause I have found an answer.
I lost my father at the age of 21, now I am 56 year old happy family man with a lovely caring wife and two beautiful daughters.
On 30th Sept 1971 my father took me to plot of land about 10 Kms away on a scooter. He wanted to build a house for us there. It was beautiful place at the foothill and a small stream passing in front. I was overwhelmed when Papa asked me to design the house as I was in 3rd year of civil engineering.
Man proposes, God disposes.
On our way back we met with an accident when a fast moving truck dashed our scooter. I could see only a flash of it, then I was not knowing anything as I was senseless for 7 days.
I was brought back to the Air Force Qrt ( Father was working in Indian Air Force) after 7 days when I found I have lost my father.
The magenta coloured truck frontage flashed in my mind. I remain stunned and dumbfounded. I did'nt cry. My family members became very worried. Doctor made me sleep again.
Gradually I recovered from a number of injuries including a severe head injury. I had multiple injuries on my right side eyes, shoulder and knee.
I learnt slowly that I lost my father on the day of accident itself and due to my head injury doctors kept me under seduction.
With the help of my God-sent friend and his family I could appear my exams and complete graduation with flying colours. I got good appointment and today I am one of the General Manager in Steel Authority of India Limited in Rourkela, Orissa. My elder daughter, Mohar is married on 15.12.2006 with a smart and handsome boy, Himanshu. Younger daughter is appearing 2nd year exams at Mumbai.
I am a happy and contended man with the blessings of my heavenly father.
Life goes on but some incident never leave you ( rather should not leave). I was going through the same trauma while punching keys to narrate.
(There are some more to tell you on this incident if you desire. May send me mail at subhas_53@yahoo.com)
All the best for your writing career.
Regards.

Well, it's not very exciting...but definitely changed my life forever!
My husband (now ex) were on vacation with our 2 children visiting my parents and he decided to venture out on his own one day. He came back very late stating he picked up a girl hitchhiking who was beaten and bloodied. He took her to the airport and bought her a ticket back home to California (BTW, we resided in CA at the time).
What he failed to tell me that the woman (not girl) was a pychotic, bi-polar, alcoholic stripper/hooker.
Once we were back in CA, he pursued her for months and I decided I had enough.......he, then locked the children & I out of our home and continued over the next 4 yrs to lose all his belongings, job, home & even go to jail for this woman.
My children and I suffered deeply - it was a turmultous, chaotic time in our lives that scarred my daughter terribly.
The pain and misery caused by my ex-husband and his 'friend' is unforgettable and irreversible.
