I really like it, its like the only song ever that both my dad and I enjoy. Its mysterious sounding. You can just imagine a mysterious hotel in the middle of a desert. It actually reminds me a little bit of beauty in the beast, is that weird? Like how the servants are trapped in a curse, and the curse was self-made by the prince (beast).

Actually it's not what I feel, it's what I think at the time I hear it.

I don't know if it's still there or not but when I was a kid, and even older, there was a Hotel California on San Pablo Ave. in Oakland, California. I was told that it was the inspiration for the song. I think about it when I hear the song.

"Hotel California" is chocked full of cynicism, sobering memories of what we started out wanting and confronting what we got, instead, and irony.. in other words, things most people don't want in a pop song. It's about the emptiness that can be found at the core of the glamour lifestyle and it's bitter, last line "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave" addresses the life altering choices one can make while living too fast and trying to be at the center of the party. It's a reflection on a career, what California stood for back in the day and what it meant to the author who rose to fame in that era and in that place.

In other words, it's old people's music. : )

It's sentiments are reflected in a line from a different Eagles song: "The Best Of My Love" where he sings: "Beautiful faces and loud empty places, Look at the way that we live."

I feel old, cause it takes me back to the 70's when I used to sit in the bars and that song was pretty well played out! I still love the song though, I always get caught up in the guitar playing at the end, I get hypnotized by it!

I love that song. When I listen to it I feel happy. And kinda cruisy/relaxed. And I remember my friends and mine alternate lyrics... The Hotel You Can't Afford It

Nostalgic, like I want to get in a beat up convertible and cruise Route 66 while discovering the song is about selling my soul to the devil.

Nostalgic. It reminds me of my childhood growing up in the 80's back when things were so much better than they are now.
