either seen someone mess with the food (i.e. spit in the hamburger) or done it yourself, before serving the food to the customer?

My husband worked at McDonald's back in high school and he saw people picking up cooked burger patties and putting them on the buns several times. One guy would spit on the sandwiches if you returned your order because he bagged it wrong at the drive-thru.

We had a guy at Jack-in-the-box who did. This was back in the day and when I worked there for college spending money. Every weekend this obnoxious guy would pull up to the drive-thru at mid-night and yell out: "Gimme a Jack-*ff-in-the Box burger". Finally, this guy at work got so mad that he put a balloon in the guy's hamburger.

I've worked in deli's for about 21 years for a major grocery chain. the worse thing I've seen is something being picked up off the floor and put in the fryer. I saw someone put tabasco sauce on someones pizza cuz they didn't like them. Honestly, that's the worst. It's not awful everywhere.

I worked at Burger King when I was in college. I never tampered with food and I never saw anyone else do it.
