84 hours. That's the way it goes when you're deployed in the military supporting an on going conflict though. 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, for just about 3 months straight. I ain't complaining though, many work much more than that, and many definitely work harder than me!

I did about 60 hours at the end of tax season last year. If the person is young, it's probably a bid for more money in overtime. Sometimes its a person with a new business who can't afford to hire anybody and who isn't turning down work from anybody.
I think most people who have accomplished most of their life's goals are ready to kick back and enjoy life a little more and wouldn't want to put in those kinds of hours. Also, those people are older and it's harder to keep up that kind of pace when you're over 45.
People vary, as do situations, and it's tough to draw generalities about people by the number of hours they work per week. Working single parents put in more hours than other parents do, usually, because of the need for money for the family and the fact that there is only one income. Single people sometimes have a specific goal in mind and want to achieve it faster than they otherwise would, so they work more hours to make the money they need quicker. You just can't ever really tell all the reasons.

Since I'm a commercial driver, legally I can't exceed 70 hours in an 8 day period in our truck. However, that doesn't even begin to explain that I am an owner/operator, a wife, and a mother. 70 hours "on duty" in my log book doesn't include the time I spend working around the truck -- paying bills, doing maintenance, and the such. It also doesn't include the time I spend working at home -- doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, taking care of our children, paying household bills, and the such. All total, I get between 4 and 5 hours of sleep per night. So most of the other 18 or 19 hours of the day are spent doing something related to work for our truck or home. That boils down to working about 126 to 133 hours per week.

I work on average of 108 hours per week or 18 hours a day @ 6 days per week. I do home inspections for mortgage companies and make very little per inspection. I have to do many to make it. I think as long as you can live the life that you have goals for, it doen't matter how many hours you work, 7 or 108. The more hours you work the less likely you will achive your goals with regards to your time spent. However it pays well, 58 hours is nothing, and you can still achieve your goals.

I've worked 70 hours in one week before...and I'm glad to say thank goodness I no longer have that same job. You don't necessarily accomplish life goals...sometimes it's inevitable when you have deadlines and perhaps short-staffed. The money comes in handy, though, but then Uncle Sam takes so much of it...so is it worth it?

longest on-the-clock work week was over 90 hrs.
other times (like nonprofit start-up) basically every hour not sleeping or eating was working.
not a good thing, really. at a certain point your productivity starts to drop.. and you would have accomplished as much w/o as much time spent

I try not to work more than 70 hours. Any more than that seems wasted because the tax rate goes up. 30 hours of overtime pay sure is nice.
