After the stock market crash, production fell by nearly 50 percent from the business cycle peak in August 1929 to the trough in March 1933. At the same time, the overall price level dropped by about one-third.
Since the Great Depression happened after the 1929 stock market crash, many people blamed it for the economic collapse. Some held President Hoover responsible; others targeted the brokers, bankers and businessmen. But the cause of the Great Depression could not be attributed to one individual or even group of people.
Also, it seems unlikely that a crash in stock prices would have been sufficient to lead the U.S. economy into depression and to sustain the downward spiral in business activity.
So it can be said with certainty that the stock market crash alone did not cause the Great Depression.

Of course it was the start of the Great Depression, business men jumped out of office tower windows because their losses were so great. The stock market plunge caused financial ruin for those who had not planned for such a disaster therefore the economy suffered accordingly.

I don't think it was the cause but it certainly was a major contributing factor. People lost thousands of dollars and major corporations went under overnight. Untold thousands of people lost their jobs overnight, as well. Families that had not been suffering from unpaid bills all of a sudden didn't have money to pay their bills and buy food. People often couldn't go to the stores to buy food because the shelves were sometimes bare. People had to adjust to all of this very quickly and there were a lot of men who left their homes to try and find work elsewhere, only to realize that they had to compete with hundreds of others in the same situation. People who had previously been happily employed and had good skills just didn't have any place to go to work. Farmers fared best because they could grow food on their land, but others who didn't own their own land sometimes found themselves forced to leave because landlords took over their homes and began working the land themselves.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

honestly, there is not only one right answer.. the question is an agree or disagree question, which means you have an option to support your view. if you give evidence that supports your claim, there is no wrong answer.
besides that, you should have read the material you were supposed to, and you'd be able to come up with an answer.. sorry i can't help you out.
