When the law provides for an exception.

Common exceptions include emergency situations (duress, necessity), self-defense and defense of others, etc.

The example you gave could be asserted as either defense of others, or necessity, depending on your relation to the toddler.

we all know what is commonly right and wrong. I think it would depend on the crimes and if it was done in a deviant manner. For instance speeding...We all have been caught speeding right (and dont lie) but were you committing a deviant act by speeding...NO its just something that we all have done. Now if I was speeding and laughing and the cop that was chasing me I sure would be committng a deviant act. But if I was speeding to get my child to the dr. or becuase of some other emergency then I think that my speeding is justified.

honestly, jaywalking is a common law that is broken, without consiquence. saving a todler from being hit should be a very good reason for breaking a minor law

situations where one feels one is doing the right thing n is ready to face every consequences of ones action...

like, if u jaywalked to save a toddler, it shouldn't matter if u got fined, because ur conscience is clear...
