Rather than ask what other people thought of any book, you should just read it for yourself and form your own opinion. I read it and thought it was a good read, not great but good. Try some of the books by Steve Berry if you like that sort of thing. They are interesting and based on actual sites and places in history. Check out Mr. Berry's website at: www.steveberry.org and see what you think?
Also try books by Matthew Reilly, James Rollins, Ted Bell and Jack DuBrul.
If you like martial arts-type books try and find the series of books(used bookstores typically have them) by Eric Van Lustbader. His first book in the Japan series starts out with NINJA(by the way the plural of NINJA IS NINJA, no added 's'.

I thought the Da Vinci Code was great...it was hard to put down, and it provoked a lot of thought and conversation...people were talking about the concepts in the book, and recommending it to their friends...it was on the bestseller lists for something like 162 weeks...I watched the movie, and I thought it didn't do the book justice...
I agree with previous posters, and recommend reading 'Angels and Demons' first...you will enjoy that one, and the themes are similar

Dan Brown truly has a great imagination, which he has learned to intertwine with historical fact. The storyline is easy to follow, but you have to keep up with switching back and forth to different characters and scenes between chapters. The chapters are short, which is ideal if you're the type of person who is short on time, or just gets interrupted frequently when reading. That way it's easy to find a stopping point. If you really let yourself get into the storyline of the book, the ending has somewhat of a "Sixth Sense" jolt to it. I think that it's a very good read for a fiction. Check it out!

you must read it 1. if you like detective novels and thrillers and like mysterious codes The suspense is built up to reach the climax very well.2. the da vinci code tries to answer some questions about the life of Jesus after resurrection ,, you may be a devout christian and reject it as blasphemy, but the fact remains that nobody has disproved that it coould not have happened. 3,reading it prompted me to learn more about Jesus Christ after resurrection and the life of Mary Magdalene.

I think it's a great book, makes you think about things and wonder "what if". The people who all questioned their faith and called Dan Brown a blasphemer, well, those people seem to forget that it's a work of FICTION. It's fast moving and full of action, just when you think you have it all figured out, he hits you with another plot twist. I've read it twice, but I think his earlier work "Angels and Demons", is actually better, give it a read too.

I am a Catholic and read the book. The book was well written as a suspense thriller. Lots of twist... Dan Brown is a good writer.
But anyone with the ability to reason can find flaws with his whole concept (that's if you believe in its content). Of course he meant it as a fictional novel. But you will definitely learn from it.

i found the book very nice. it is a thriller and the movie is not half as good. the book is fascinating but it depends which side of the story you take. some said it s really bad and is insulting to christianity and the others feel it is fiction so its ok.
but i loved the book and seeing the book in fictional sense, is really really great.
hope u read it and LOVE it!!

I really liked it--I did not guess the ending until near the end, which I can't say for most books. I would say, though, that his other book Angels & Demons is good, too, but only if you read one or the other. If you read both, then one is good and the other is just okay.

It was great, but I suggest getting the illustrated copy, so when then mention a piece of art or location you won't have to rack your brain trying to figure out what it looked like.
It made the story that much more enjoyable for me.

I was very disappointed in the book and thought it was terribly over-rated. I thought it was a waste of time, since I am not ordinarily a fiction reader.
