Yes, depression really exists. There are many different types. Some are situational, such as the death of a loved one. Others can be caused by an imbalance in brain chemicals. Depression can be for a short time or for years. Most times it can be handled with simple things such as talking about your feelings or a change in your lifestyle. Other times some people need medication to help them through their difficult time.
Whatever the circumstances, understanding goes a long way toward helping the depressed person. Let that person know that you care and you are willing to help them to help themselves.

Yes, there is such a thing as depression. I agree with you that people say they are depressed when they aren't and that it is overused but it exists. My wifes suffers from it and it is really hard on the person and those around them. It is hard for me to deal with her when she is depressed because I have no idea how to make her better. So, if you or someone you know is depressed then have them get help. If they are truly depressed then only a doctor can help them.

there are many ways to describe depression , it is a decease, with different degrees, ptsd, which is post traumatic stress disorder its not just not for military, but also anyone can suffer from it ,things from a childhood, either ,verbal, physical, mental,or even inherited, a lot of people block it as so not to think about it,some drink or do drugs medication alone will not help they have to talk about it with other people with the same problem, or get professional help go to groups and most of all they cant do it alone they even have to have help from one other a higher power of there own choice as long as it is not a tree .a little depression is healthy . it part of a human emotion ,but a lot of people who suffer , some things from the past can show up ,after years but a traumatic event can trigger it,t.v. something someone does or says , yell or screams, car accident, a death in the family breaking up with a love one,as i said if some one is detoxing .the walls come tumbling down of all the bridges they burned the people they hurt , the bad things they have done , which then need help, medication, and therapy it is real.

Oh yes there most definately is depression! It's caused more by a chemical inbalance in the brain than an actual problem. Although problems can trigger these episodes of the "blue funks". Sometimes these periods of depression or overwhelming sadness will ease up on their own, but often people who suffer with it too often need meds and/or therapy to alleviate the "blue funks". And there are several types of depression too. If you suffer with reoccurrring sadness you should see a doctor.

Yes.
Actually, Depression is an actual medical condition not to be takin lightly. Feeling down and sad is different from depression, depression is more extreme. People who suffer from depression are a lot more likely to hurt themselves or others.
Ever have a REALLY off day and you feel crappy and as low as dirt? Just sad and down?
That is NOT depression.
Sitting down and feeling so sad you concider suicide. Being so sad, you hurt yourself to take out stress. Can't sleep because the pain is just too much. This, is depression.
There is a difference. Depression is serious. Teens that suffer from actual depression are likely to kill themselves, it's the 8th hightest rated cause of death for men in america.
Saddness, you never hear about a death from that.
There is a difference in really really sad, and depession.

I hope you never have to find out the answer to this question from personal experience. I agree, the word depression is used too freely to describe varying degrees of sadness. But true depression, i.e. the kind diagnosed by a doctor, definitely exists. I don't think you would find a person in the medical profession who claims it doesn't. Clinical depression is accompanied by chemical imbalances in the brain and therefore can be very hard to get out of without the use of prescribed medication. True depression is absolutely devastating and absolutely black. It is pure pain and desolation. It can be fatal.
Suicide goes against every natural survival instinct we have as human beings and so you have to be very genuinely ill to kill yourself. As I said, I hope you never feel it.

Felling sad or lonely is not depression. Depression can physically affect you as well as mentally. It is not just being bummed. It goes down to the very core of you. And it affects the people around you too.
I do agree with you, though, about people just using the term to describe how they are feeling. It is overused, but it does really exsist and is very serious.

U mean like a "clinically depressed" person... yea they exist, thats why they make drugs like Prozac to help these people with their chemical inbalance... what I hate though is when psychiatrists give people these mind altering drugs when they have no inbalace and have a legitament reason for feeling bad... but there is a differnce and differnt levels of depression definately

I genuinely have been stricken by post partum melancholy for the previous one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days when I gave delivery to a infant boy. i could no longer end thinking approximately how my husband loves him better than me and how issues could be extra effectual if he wasn't born in any respect. to that end, I stayed faraway from him because of the fact I knew that i might do something i would be apologetic approximately for something of my existence. very just about right away I went to a therapist and convince them that i want help. between different issues, i've got tried organic supplementations and different e book to handle melancholy yet no longer something works like the melancholy unfastened technique. So now i'm proud to assert i'm between the happiest mom in the international. My husband loves us the two very lots and that i thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us. melancholy unfastened technique?

Yes, depression exists and I am a current patient. Depression is when, at least from my interpretation, somebody is sad for no good reason--well, there are alot of different kinds of depression, but depression is usually anger turned inward. and when "bad" becomes internalized and universal.
