Hmmm. Interesting. I am visiting with my mom and she has BANNED any spicy food from me, LOL. Maybe its an old wives tale? Or maybe just in the Latin culture?

Hey,if spicy is what you like go for it! the only person that is going to hurt is you when that heart burn sets in!!L.O.L But I think that its great that your so concerned for your baby there are some who continue to drink, smoke, and do drugs without a second thought so way to go for you!!

A lot of pregnant women get heartburn from spicy food, but that's about the only side effect. The baby won't be bothered by the flavor of your food choices while pregnant, although research shows that a diluted flavor of the foods you eat shows up in the amniotic fluid, and since the baby swallows amniotic fluid, they can get a little taste. But don't worry, it won't be as hot and spicy as what you're tasting! Just have some tums on hand for your sake!

Yes. Eating spicy food will not do any harm. I only eat spicy food during this pregnancy and I am 24 weeks along, and after my ultrasounds and prenatal appointments, the baby is growing perfect and I am having a storybook pregnancy. The only thing is is the indigestion! At night is when it attacks the most, but drinking milk helps with that. So I hope I was of help to you and I wish you luck with the new coming baby!!

I like spicy food anyway, but I'm pregnant at the moment and it's all I crave! Chilli sauce on everything, literally lol! I don't think it's bad for the baby at all, I'd say knock yourself out lol! I think most women have a higher tolerance for spicy food when they're pregnant.

I had a Mexican friend that was preg. and she ate spicy foods all the time, people told her it was bad for her health so she asked her doctor and the doctors said that she could eat spicy food and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Just beware! If the baby doesn't like it, then you might not get to eat it anyway! (smile)

Sometimes people may tell you it's bad for baby, but you know what? I CRAVED spicy food when I was pregnant, and now that she's born, I still do. I'm breastfeeding, so what I eat, she eats, and it doesn't seem to bother her. I would say to keep some Tums on hand in case you get heartburn though!

You can eat, you just might not like the results. You are definitely more prone to heartburn during pregnancy and this can definitely bring it on. Also, your digestive system slows during pregnancy and this may cause you some discomfort. I would try a little at a time if you want to eat spicy food to see how your body reacts. I would also keep the tums handy just in case. Good luck.

I'm mom to 3 and with my middle child I ate so much spicy food my son said I was going to burn the baby out of me...lol..lol. My doctor said as long as I was comfortable eating it and did it in moderation, we'd both be fine. With my first baby, all I wanted was chocolate, and what luck..lol..lol..he was born in October when ALL the stores have chocolate out. My youngest child, I just wanted fruit. Surprised she likes fruit at all now..lol.
