Argle: Thats not the question. I'm pretty sure neither republicans nor democrats want soldiers to die. The question is who benefits from failure in Iraq and who benefits from success?

Saying Democrats are muddled on Iraq is a favorite media distraction. But the response is simple: if Bush's policy is to "stay the course," the Democratic policy - whether we accept Murtha's approach or Feingold's or Kerry's - is to "change the course." Simple enough. Changing positions in light of new evidence and new circumstances is the sign of a mature and rational mind. Stubbornly clinging to a failed course of action is not.

It's fascinating how Democrats are always the ones held to account for their Iraq vote, but not Republicans. The question constantly put to Dems, "you voted for it, now you're against it," has a straightforward answer, as phrased by a Democratic senator: "we authorized Bush to put the bullet in the gun, not to shoot us in the foot." We've been shot in the foot by the administration's Iraq policy. Democrats are rightfully reacting to that. The real question - to Republicans - is this: "You voted for this war based on Saddam's threat to America. The threat never materialized. Was your decision wrong? And does your lockstep allegiance to Bush's failed policy make you personally responsible for further deaths beyond the 2000+ American troops who have already given their lives?"

I do not be live that the liberals want us to loose in Iraq but I do think they care if we win either. The biggest problems the libs have is their ideas are short term. Yes pulling out of Iraq will save American lives for a while but what happens when there is another attack on American soil? How many lives would be lost then? Another problem with the libs is they do not seem to understand this is not the Vietnam war! The enemy in Iraq threatens America especially when you consider the threat Iran poses. As soon as America leaves it will be a free for all in Iraq and Iran will take advantage of the chaos!

The democrats have a vested interest in discrediting Bush in any way they can - and if that means losing the war in Iraq, that's seems to be secondary to their agenda of winning back the White House in 2008.
It's a sad commentary.

We were decieved intogoing there, our true enemy responsible for 9/11 was in afganistan, and has become stronger becuase of our failure totake direct action against them we could have had bin laden prior to9/11 but bush administration didnt want him when Saudi Arabia offered him

As far as who benefits most in IRAQ -- republicans that are fighting to keepus there.
Billions billiosn disappear magically.
Billions given to contractors -- friends of this administration.

Bush made up that Win/losedefeat or success propoganda, for IF HE LISTENED TO HIS ADVISORS PRIOR he already knew entering this we could not come out successful

I think many far left liberals think that a loss in Iraq will be good for their party in the long run, just as they thought in vietnam. The result from that was millions slaughtered AFTER we left and a shamed military. It sucks that they're not thinking about the country and the world instead of just their party. But hey....that's why I hate politics. I still always vote, though.

Who's benefiting right now from the problems going on in Iraq now? Cheney's business, Iran, Syria, the other businesses who are profiting from the war, al-Queda, who is happy that Bush has FORGOTTEN Afghanistan, where the country is falling back into their hands, and Bush, who stole their oil.

Who's not benefiting right now? The soldiers who were LIED to about the war and the United States citizens who are watching their money go to Cheney's pocket

Democrats/Liberals want us to lose so they can brag about how they beat George Bush.

It doesn't matter, to them, that there are soldiers dying for that.

They can pull us out, but we'll end up coming back, and it won't be me. It will probably be my son, and your sons. If they will just look past the end of their own short noses, they will see that we MUST have a stable Middle East for the security of our future.

well... everyone has their "vested interest" of course... on both sides...

but the democrat vested interest would merely be popularity and being able to say "we were right"

while Republicans have a vested interest of saying "we were right" (if they win) and all the billions of dollars they are making from a variety of sources (from no-bid contracts, destabilizing the oil market and weapons contracts)

Of course they do, i think all americans can find that self evident. Is that even a debatable question? Any liberal who would try to agrue with that statement is a complete liar and would be lying to themselves.
