The average American household is in the neighborhood of $45k. so you are doing pretty well for one person. also depends where you live, i.e., $35k in Iowa gets you pretty far, but less so in Manhattan. the bureau of labor statistics website can probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know on this topic...
