Encryption is the act of securing your data so that only authorized persons can have access to it. Some examples include EFS (Encryption File System), MD5, SSH, etc.

It's a security feature found in most software and Operating Systems that scrambles your data, rendering it unreadable without the correct password.

Encryption is used to ensure over the internet, a website, or a wireless signal isn't viewed by an unwanted party. An encrypted communication usually contains a key, which can be entered to decrypt the information. This way, the only people who see the information or use the connection are those who are meant to see it or use it.

Encryption is technique used to secure transmitting of important, personal information.

transmitter [Encryption] ----------------------non-secure channel---------------------receiver [Decryption]

example: you are using your credit card online to buy something.

so in this case you are the transmitter, your web browser encrypt your information (credit card number ) over non secure channel (internet) and then the receiver decrypt it.

There are a long list of encryption technique like DES, ASE.

the encryption is simply applying mathematics operation over message.

the simplest encryption technique

example: message abcd
Key +2
1- convert the letters into number
a=1 b=2 c=3 d=4 and so on
so New Message 1234

2- apply key +2
result 3456

3- convert back to letters
result CDEF

so CDEF is the encrypted message of abcd

to put it simply it means it's translating information into computer language. that way any third party who might intercept whatever is encrypted can't read it.
