Guinea pigs are not nasty, they are cute and very affectionate (they chirp when they are happy, like when you are brushing them). They will also come when you call them. I say get the fuzzy little pig, more of a pet as far as I'm concerned.

I actually have one of each! Well, one guinea pig and two hamsters! I would rather have my guiinea pig over my hamsters. She is very cuddly (can't cuddle a hamster!) and I have never had to worry about her biting. Mine doesn't squeak, and if she does it's very quiet. I don't have to worry about her running off and not being able to catch her because she's a lot bigger than the hamsters and easier to see.
My hamsters on the other hand...they run on thier wheel all night long, and they are loud! They have gotten out of thier cage and it took me 3 days once before i found them! I think they make me more nervous about the biting thing. They are more skittish and I'm always afraid they are going to sink thier teeth in me!
It's really your decision, but if you want an animal you'll be able to bond with, I think a guinea pig would be a better choice! Just take your time in choosing one, maybe you'll find a nonsqueaker like mine!

I used to have 2 long haired guinea pigs. They are not loud at all except when you come home.
They are like dogs in that they miss us when we're gone. They kick up a fuss so that we will go pick them up.
I miss them.
I don't know if hamsters do that or not but I'm so sorry about the loss of your hamster.
I have always loved hamsters but have never owned one. They're addorable.
You might try a guinea pig. They are very loving and smart too.
If you get one, you might consider getting 2 because they can get lonely.
Another thing. Don't ever feed them grass from your yard. It is poisonous to them. I accidently killed my first one when I was young by letting it eat grass in my backyard. I was young. I still feel the pain when I think about it.
If you can't make up your mind, why not get both?
Good luck on your decision.

Guinea pigs are nice and pretty clean and live longer then a hamster if you give them the right care. Or might i suggest a bunny, they are a hardy animal and are easy to take care of. With bunnies, they won't bite you. The worst thing a bunny can do to you is kick. (which doesn't hurt at all) Bunnies are really easy to take care of. You would have to buy bunny food and should feed it that everyday and about three times a week you should cut up some veggies and serve your bunny that. You can also train bunnies to use the kitty liter box and let it rome around your house kind of like a cat, but i would reconmend a medium/large cage for housing, and let it run around the house once a day or more for excersise. For bedding you should probably use hay, aspen beddings and stuff like that.

Guinea pigs tend to be a lot calmer than hamsters and make better pets. As far as being loud they are not. If you use cedar chips in their cage and change their cage regularly there is no odor. Guinea pigs are more people friendly and will pretty much eat from your hand when you feed them.

Hi! There is a huge difference in the type of care they each need, so I suggest you do some research on them both. Guinea pigs are more affectionate and verbal, whereas hamsters require less care and attention.

Me personally I would rather have a GP. They are nice and cuddly. They would rather run away than bite you. And never use cedar ships for their bedding. They are a small animal and this could cause them to get an upper respiratory infection. Cedar is not good for small animals. You could change is out once or twice a week and it wouldn't smell. They do require more room than hamsters and have different dietary needs than hamsters but it is worth it. You can teach them tricks and learn what their noises mean and they love attention. You do have to spend at least an hour a day with them though. They are great pets and alot of humane societies adopt them out.

Definitely a guinea pig! First off, they're awake during the day, unlike hamsters, and they're very sociable little animals. They whistle to get your attention, and make a delightful trilling sound when they're petted- how cute is that? They're easy to look after, and have on average a 5 year plus life span- they can also be trained to walk along on leash wearing specially made quinea pig harnesses- how cool is that?

You could go chinchilla. Hamsters are more pliable and playful than guinea pigs - plus guinea pigs have a higher mortality rate.
Hamsters have a bad habit of dying in a short time too.
Chinchillas are much hardier and VERY fun.
So are sugar gliders.

I like guinea pigs better. They're sweet. Hamsters bite.
Rats are fun too. Smart and love people. They learn tricks.
