It depends on the bar's policy. I work behind the bar in a restaurant and we have no rules against kids sitting at the bar.
That being said, just use common sense. Because the restaurant I work in is a sports bar it is often loud, and the men at the bar tend to drink a lot during games. That's a time when it's probably best just to get a table. Also, sitting your family with four kids at the bar so you don't have to wait for a table on a busy night is usually frowned upon, although they won't tell you that! It's not that we don't like families, it's just that bartenders make their money off selling alcohol, not food and sodas! If I'm not busy though, I like talking to the kid that comes in now and then with his daddy. They always feel soooo grown-up when they get to sit up there.

My parents would take all four of us "kids" to the bars with them, IF the bar said we couldn't be there, then my parents left the bar. I believe it's up to the bar manager & workers to decide if kids are allowed to sit w/parents. But the law says the kids cannot drink! Also make sure the kids are old enough to behave and not run around, or make a racket! No one appreciates loud, obnoxious kids. It's dangerous at bars for the waiters, waitresses to have kids running under foot, they are much too busy to notice little ones underfoot & can be knocked down, drinks in hand to the floor----what a mess, and one reason that some bars do not allow kids in.

I work behind a bar and even if it is allowed the answer is no. There is alot of adult talk that goes on at the bar that shouldn't be subjected to kids. It also turns off the people at the bar because they go there to relax and some of them to get away from their own world to hang out with adults only. Now your bringing in what they are trying to escape from to them. Sit down and eat with your kids at the table. Enjoy your meal and save yourself and your kids from overhearing adult content.

If it's an actual bar, no (unless your kids are 21 or older). If it's like a bar at a family restaurant which doesn't sell liquor and is not seperated from the rest of the restaurant, then probably yes.

Yes,I've done it before.Of course,my daughter was in a stroller and I put the break on it,sat her sideways,so she wouldn't be directly in my cig smoke and so she could see me at the same time.MAKE SURE you bring small and entertaining, quiet toys:coloring book and 3-5 crayons, books to look at,a favorite toy, some not-so-messy snacks the child loves. And make sure you talk to the child a bit,so she/he doesn't feel ignored.AND MAKE SURE YOU ASK PERMISSION TO THE RESTAURANT DESK CLERK/BOSS AND BAR TENDER!!!

Yes - anywhere in the world except for the United States and Muslim countries. I remember being in the Philippines, Singapore, Belgium and Germany and Denmark with my parents - drinking vodka as a 13 year old in restaurants and it was never an issue. I'm now 43 and not a drug or alcohol addict!!! the government really should keep out of people s private lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I sat at bars all the time with my dad when I was a kid. . . I'm still a normal functioning adult, but I was honestly scared when I was doing it.
