Yes it is the same, MANY things have risks, driving, diving, surfing - and there is greater risk of injury on a play ground.
I think its part of the sexually repressed age we are emerging from coming to the forefront when people make this comment.
If I were on a beach in Mexico and was attacked and eaten by a shark while swimming, who would say "oh, her own fault, she knew the risk." No one, it would be a tragedy.
Also too, I believe, that for some, if they COULDN'T blame the couple for creating a child, they couldn't jump down their throats about abortion.
And human sexual intercourse is not just for reproduction, if it were, like other animals, females would only engage in sex during reproductive times (ovulation). Males would be MUCH more concerned about mating rights and humans CERTAINLY would not masturbate. There would be no reason to seek orgasm, it would be for reproduction. So sex is NOT just for reproduction and no one HAS to use a car.

No this is really asking to define the word accident and most pregnancies that are an accident are from a lack of protection. While a car accident can result in a number of ways, the driver-the other driver-environment. In my opinion having sex without a condom and getting pregnant is not an accident its a result that people don't like to own up to. My first son wasn't an accident he was a wonderful result to lack of protection. I see where you are trying to go with this but its a stretch and I don't think they are the same.

Cars weren't made for the purpose of crashes. Sex, though very, very enjoyable, was actually meant for the creation of life.
You wear a seatbelt when you get in a car in case you get in a crash, and you drive the speed limit to stay safe, because you don't want to get in a crash, even though these things will not necessarily prevent the accident. You buy insurance because you need to be prepared in case an accident happens anyway. Going along with your comparison, if you have sex and do not want to get pregnant, you should take the precautions of being on birth control and using condoms, because semen and eggs combined make babies...no ifs, ands, or buts about it. As far as insurance goes, that's the equivalent of realizing that you could still get pregnant despite your precautions and making plans in case that situation does arise.
You DO think about getting in a crash before you drive a car, and you should also think about getting pregnant before you have sex.

You're totally correct.
However, before people can drive they have to take a knowledge test. Then, they drive with supervision before taking a skill test to demonstrate their ability to drive in a way that keeps them and others safe. When people drive, they wear seatbelts in vehicles with airbags.
When people have sex, they often don't take all the necessary precautions to keep them and their partner safe. It would be wonderful if people approached having sex with the same level of responsibility as they do driving.
Speaking for myself, I take similar precautions when driving and when having sex. In fact, I "don't get into a car if I can't take the possibility of being in an accident". For example, I don't drive in developing countries where there are no speed limits and the roads are unpaved. When I visit those places I travel by public transportation or use a taxi or driver. Similarly, I don't sleep with every guy who comes knocking at my door. When I do sleep with someone, I use two reliable forms of birth control and make sure I'm protected against STDs. Just like I renew my driving license, I get regular STD checks and pap smears.

That's an interesting analogy. I think for most people getting in a car to get to where you have to be is pretty much inevitable now-a-days. You can get to work or get to school or go get groceries etc. without having to have sex. But you need a car. It's similar to the fact that it's harder for someone to diet than it is to stop smoking - you can live without nicotine but you can't live without food.

I think I know what you are saying and people like to basically sound like know it alls. It is very easy to throw something in someones face after the fact. Many people come here looking for advice and people will say things like "you should have thought about that before spreading your legs". Seriously what is the point in stating the obvious? I guess some people just can't help themselves from being jerks.

True, but ever one should wear a seat belt. Dont you think. Accidents happen, in cars and in pregnancy, Condoms break, birth controls are never 100% . Same as seat belt dont work all the time and air bags can kill.
NEVER go blindly into ANYTHING!!

either you take a chance, but driving may be a necessary chance to get to work or such and you are also able to control the results pretty well completely, there are really no accidents. All could be avoided either by you or the one who caused it or both.
Sex is a chance no matter what way you use to protect yourself and is not necessary in any circumstance.
Your comparison really is not a good comparison at all.

No its not the same. When you get in a vehicle you put on your seatbelt if you have any sense to safeguard yourself from getting hurt in a car accident. When you have sex you wear a condom or use birth control to safeguard yourself from pregnancy and STD's. If you get in the car and choose not to wear your seatbelt, you take a chance and if you have sex without a condom or birth control then you risk pregnancy......

I know exactly what you mean. The way i see it is just because you concent to sex doesnt mean you concent to getting pregnant. That is why people use protection. Sure protection fails (trust me i know) thats why when people have sex they need to be fully aware that no form of protection be it a condom or having your tubes tied is 100% effective. I have know a few people who have become pregnant after having their tubes tied.
