When a guy has a child and finds out later that the child is really not his, biologially, how are they related? Other than, they are dad and child always, etc, is there an opposite of biological that is not step, adopted, etc. Thanks.

They have a very strong dad / child relationship. They are "related". Is the word I'm looking for 'phyiscally'? Is that the opposite? Physically his child but not biologically?

Lets forget the soap opera effect. I am merely looking for the legal terminology of the opposite of biological.
Thanks.

Depending on which state you live in- most of the time if the parents are married- the husband is presumed to be the parent of the child- actually- he is the legal parent even if he isn't the biological parent. However, if there is no marriage involved, there is no legal term for what you are describing. In certain cases, even if the parents are not married but one person has spend considerable time with a child and raised the child as their own (and contributed to the raising of the child), the person can be seen as a psychological parent and can have the same if not more legal custody rights as a biological parent. The term psychological parent is the legal term for what I described. This does not change a "relationship"- it doesn't mean they are related, it just changes how the law views the relationship.

The alternative, not the opposite, is legal or customary.
This evokes an emoptional attachment that may not have
any impact other than the psychological understanding of a perceived relationship that may (or may not) be temporary and weak.

He is the childs step-father...with no legal rights concerning the child. Only you and the father have any parental rights.

There is biological, emotional and legal. If it's no biological, and there is no legal adoption, then it's just an emotional parentage.
