How can I get a sloth as a pet? To take home I mean. I didn't think you could have one in the United States but apparently you can... Does anyone know how I would go about doing that?

I never heard of anyone owning a pet Sloth, but then people in Texas are owning Tigers so I guess anything is possible, first if I were you, I would check to see if one needs to have a permit to own one, also find out what special housing you would need, I doubt you will be able to let it sleep with you for they will take a bite out of you and don't kid yourself that they are gentle creatures, and also look for a Vet that handles such animals...
Another thing if you simply want to have Sloth just for the fun of it at having something different then you have NO BUSINESS AT OWNING A SLOTH unless it is stuff and made out of man made fibers.

Assuming that you are serious.. You need to decide if you want a 2 toed, 3 toed, sloth bear or giant ground sloth. Do some research on which ever you choose and then see if it is available from a reputable dealer. Walmart, K-Mart and regular pet stores don't have them.

I agree with other answers...why do you want one? Adopt one.
THINK about it...OK they aren't very active, but they still have a large territory. Can you supply the right sort of vegetation to feed it...probably not...Leave them in the rainforest where they belong, and adopt one if you like them that much. (Or dress one of your nearest and dearest up as one!)

Adopt one.There are plenty of orphan sloths waiting for a good home.
