Could the air power be matched? Would citizens band together?

It makes no sense to answer that question without considering an underlying motivation. You could count planes and tanks and argue over tactics and features, but whatever country or group of countries you cobbled together to match America's military might in pure numerical terms would beg the question of a reason to fight.

If I were to hazard a guess at a reason to fight it would probably be access to petroleum. All of those wonderful planes, aircraft carriers and tanks become paperweights without oil, and even America's military might would be nullified pretty quickly without a steady stream of crude.

I have a hard time imagining Russia being the first to pull the trigger, because they've already got their own reserves and wield plenty of power without firing a single shot as a petroleum exporter. China on the other hand presents a nontrivial threat all by themselves, and their aggressive push for development means they're sucking oil about as fast as we are and their consumption rate is increasing. Although we are interdependent economically, it's not completely inconceivable that they might decide to pursue their own interests. The only problem is that if they really wanted to they can do a lot of damage to us without firing a shot. They could simply stop buying all those bonds we float to pay for our deficit.

Yes, I believe that China would be a great power if it were to oppose us and strike. They have just as much technology in use for they're military but they have a different means to obtaining soldiers. If there were to need soldiers they simple use something called conscription which is like the draft. Keep in mind now that the Chinese view military service MUCH different then we do; in comparison to the youth or fighting age population.

If a nation were to attack the US on mainland they would certainly have a fight. However, the only nation which I feel could pose a serious threat would be China. All the others have too much of problem internally or are just not powerful enough to stand a long term engagement with us.

You would probably need the cooperationg of either Canada or Mexico, because no other country could really match our combined naval/air power and attack only by sea. I don't know enough details, but I would guess you would need China plus another set of countries (EU, or Russia). Don't forget that the U.S. spends more on the military than the rest of the world combined. Plus, if other countries were invading, you'd probably have almost overwhelming support from U.S. citizens (even most of those who are opposed to our current wars).

No country capable of attacking the U.S. would do so, including China, because we owe them too much money. And, we have secret advanced weaponry that no one could overcome. The only threat to this nation's security comes from within. Some 40,000 weirdo groups here have threatened to overthrow the government. Ask any FBI agent. But, hypothetically, would citizens band together if we were attacked? Research shows, "no". They have become sheep and would follow whomever promises them to keep HBO running and the malls open.

Iether Canada or Mexico would be needed for a forward base as no other country has the capability of launching a major amphibious assault. Only China could provide the manpower. Russia would be needed for the nuclear threat. UK, France & others for naval transport. Chances are, they still wouldn't win.

There isn't any. We have enough intel and nukes to deny ALL the countries in the world from invading this country. However, we cannot stop a nuclear attack, unless of course, we continue the Star Wars defense.

No country would dare attack the united states. They would be annihilated in return. Only fanatical Muslims dare attack the united states because they are not associated with any country.

China and Russia. They both have huge land armies. The Russians also have a large navy and a very large air force. The Chinese would have the manpower on their own, but they'd need Russian warships and aircraft to get their forces here.

mexico and canada can launch mainland attack !!! but for other countries it is too far away .

today's technology is far advanced so mankind will face a serious irreversible distruction to the world if they think about a war(tectonic wepons, hydrogen bombs, nuclear bombs).

Just the thought is stupid. Why on earth does so many people think of nothing but death and killing people? Why on earth are so many countries so jealous of the U.S.? Why can't they just fight for their own freedom the right way in their own countries and leave us the HELL alone. The U.S. has enough problems to deal with.
If everyone would stop messin with us we'd stop messin with them.
Whatever happened to PEACE???????????
