i think the difference is the amount of trust you have in the person. i have friends that I can laugh and hang out with all the time, but I have best friends that I can tell anything to and not worry about what they'd think about me afterwards. I can be myself with them, and feel like myself with them.
The greatest part of it all, i think, is that I can have more than one best friend.

your best friend is the one that you can trust with anything and she/ he will be supportive of it, but that person can still have fun when the time comes, and your best friend is the one that understands you better than any1 else. Hope that answers your question.
