It really depends on the characteristics of your horse! Some of my favorite horse's "barn" names have been as follows:
Skippy-playing on a registered name
Charger-the same as above
Socks-due to having 4 socks
Smoky-for a gray horse
Lucky-which seemed to curse the horse
Rosie-for a red roan mare
Snaffy-the Arabic word for excellence for a Paint gelding that seemed to fit his personality in a weird way
Cody-for a good ole boy gelding
I could go on and on.....

hhmm.. i think it depends on your feelings. the best way you can give your horse name is the way you feel it and not our idea. you get it? what i am trying to say is that giving a pet name is better if you are the one who will name it. since you are the master or your pet horse, then you should the one who'll name it. i'll tell you will feel good if your the one who'll give the name of your horse. ^_^

I've had a Dusty, Misty, and Cinnamon. I like the name Cheyenne for a horse too.

Get to know the horse's personality first- then naming them is easy! How about Joker, Scout, Windsong, Breezy or Nevada?

Ive always likes the name cheyenne for a horse, then for short id call it chai, like chai tea!
