I hate them w all my heart, and I agree with you... why pay extra for something that simply uses extra energy when you don't need it? What I hate about them the most is at dusk or dawn or cloudy days, people w drl's wont turn on their lights because they already have the drl's..... but the lights on the back are not lighted!!! They rely too much in their lights. Or the older drivers that are driving at night and of course they can see on their front due to their daylights, but again....... you can't see them from behind because they forget to turn on their lights!!! Some people rely too much in them and forget common sense

Drivers of grey and white cars, please turn on your lights if it's raining or snowing wether or not you have drl's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The states that have them mandatory just have a power trip that want to govern anything and need the revenue that tickets provide.

Some, states had to make them ,mandatory because some people are either too drunk or too dumb to turn their lights on when it gets dark???? It is a safety move to help reduce accidents, by making oncoming traffic more visible. Have you ever been at an intersection and looked left then right and about the time you are ready to pull out suddenly see a car that you didn't see before because it blended in with the background??

Daytime Running Lights are required by law in some states and parts of Canada. They are supposed to improve the visibility for other drivers. I, too, don't like them as I was brought up to believe that lights on during the day was indicative of a funeral procession (which I was taught to never interrupt).

GM has them as standard equipment, and some Ford and Chryslers offer them as optional (but required in those states and provinces where they are mandated by law). I believe they are also standard on most Hondas, some Toyotas and many other makes.

for safety.

Some states have rules that if its raining or if you go into tunnels you need to turn your headlights on but most don't.

Often situations can arise where lighting is poor and having daytime running lights can alert drivers from greater distances...

You turn them on when the sun is behind you. Allows other driver's in opposite direction to see you better.
