When the snow is that deep in late winter and their are still a lot of deer competing for the remaining limited food, the die-off is usually massive.
By increasing the hunting quotas so the deer herds remain smaller, the competition for food in a severe winter is reduced and more deer survive the winter, actually increasing the size of the herds.

During the winter months deer migrate to lowlands, where there is typically less snow. They will also wander many miles to another region where there is less or no snow.

They prepare for the lack of food during the other 3 seasons by fattening themselves up, so to speak. Still, many die of starvation. Their coats keep them warm and they can go for days without eating. Deer don't just eat what's on the ground. They eat what vegetation they can find on trees.

Deer, like most animals, don't typically get stuck in snow, but they can fall through the ice on rivers and lakes and become trapped. While deer can actually swim, the cold water can cause them to drown.

Rabbits are indeed light enough to hop along the surface of snow, but they spend most of their time, no matter what the season, burrowing underground. That's where they build their homes. Like most members of the rodent family, they will find and hoard a stash of food in preparation for winter.

rabbits are light and skim over the deep snow, deer on the other hand die in the thousands because we have made the landscape much better for them to propagate their numbers. in the resulting global warming nows they have to move farther and farther for food sources and then die in huge numbers just trying to find something to eat. the bambies die off at the early stages and then the older ones.

but this is good. creates jobs, someone has to scrape them up after the thaws. plus the large numbers running around make the auto industry sell more services for repairs and such too. often cars are totaled more often than not. dimocrats wanna see a travesty like this because it keeps the blue collar worker working and that gets them votes.

that's why dimocrats create hunting laws to limit participation. who wants a sport that makes thoughtful, considerate people, that care when they can stamp it out and have needy voters wanting free gov't cheese.

Most deer come down the mountain to (browse). They don't eat grass unless there are no tree tops or bushes to chew on. They are in the goat family.

It is a quite simple and easy answer. The answer lies in your eyes but you can not see it, in your ear but you can hear it, in your mouth but you can not taste it, in your nose but you can smell it, in your hair but you can not comb it, under your foot but you can not step on it, between your teeth but you can not bite it, yet the answer is in the place you most want it to be. The answer is in your *** hole pushing in further and further, farther and farther, until it finally reaches your brain. Still yet you can not think about it. The answer is simply that they break into your house and steal your ****..................
