Why do I have to pay child support?

my kids are not on the top of my priority list,i'm not trying to be a jerk, but i have more important things to pay for

My medical bills; i almst died a couple months ago and owe big $. plus my ex is rich

The law makes you do it because you're too irresponsible to do it yourself. Too bad. Go get a vasectomy to make sure that you don't have your priorities screwed up in the future.

Your kids SHOULD be your first priority. If you have to live in a rat infested shack so that they can adequate food, shelter, medical attention and an education, then so be it. You don't have more important things to pay for. You just have your priorities all screwed up!

Your kids are your top priorty. I realize they are very harsh on the payments for child support. Not many can live on the child support set. However, they are your children, if that means you have to get three jobs, then do it. I can give you some comfort however, whatever you do buy for your children, coats, hats, clothing, school supplies, keep the receipts. You will need them when you contest the support set. Your more important things to pay for sounds so selfish. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING AND TOP PRIORITY ARE YOUR CHILDREN. THEY DESERVE IT. THEY DID NOT ASK TO BE PUT INTO THIS SITUATION. YOU NEED TO STEP UP AND BE A PARENTAND DO THE RIGHT THING NO MATTER WHAT. If they know you worked your butt off to make sure they were provided for, in the long run, they will have nothing but respect for you. You have to stop making them sound like an inconvience. You should of thought about that before you had unprotected sex. Your job is to be the best parent those kids rightfully deserve.


Questioneer added details after my response to initial question- My answer to details- I am very sorry you almost died and about the medical bills. I do know for a fact that if you are making an attempt to pay the medical bills they cannot do a thing. I would also look for assistance and work with the hospital. As far as the phone calls you will get from the hospital, screen your calls. Pay what you can to the hospital ritually, you will be showing attempt. Don't miss a payment. Showing attempt will not warrant a law suit with the hospital. So, keep the payments of what you can afford to the hospital ritually. Check into assistance with the hospital, they are very good of going off income.

It doesn't matter if your kids are important to you or not. You are a class act jerk. With that said. You decided to have sex and the result was children. Regardless of if you want to see them or have anything to do with them, they are still your responsability. It's your job to at least financially support them until they are 18, 21 if they go to college. I hope they do! Since you have "other things more important to spend your money on" then maybe you should have used a condom or better yet, not had sex at all. Even if you think your ex is a b i t c h, she is still better than you for taking care of the kids. You need to grow up and be a father figure, not another useless b a s t a r d who is too self absorbed to care for his own children!

If your kid's aren't on the top of your priority list what the crap is? Drugs, Drinking ? I hope the woman who had these kid's with you is more responsible than you! I am with the person who responded above me, you have to pay child support so we don't have to!! Why should the tax dollar pay for your children's welfare because you are to big of an idiot to do so! My major concern is for you kid's and I don't even know who they are! Grow up and take care of your children. Get your priority's right and DON'T have ANYMORE CHILDREN!!!

You either pay now or pay later. Think about it, if you meet someone that you want to spend you life with and this comes up how do you think this will make you look? More importantly, what do you think will happen when your children are older and they hate you for it. You're obviously young and carefree, but there will come a time where you wish you paid your child support. Especially if the mother goes through the court system..

Your kids should ALWAYS be your top priority, and besides her having money is NOT the issue, it's about supporting your children, they are your kids too, and it's your responsibility as the father to support your kids. I'm sorry about your medical expenses, but your kids need to be higher in your list of priorities, especially before yourself.

In my list of priorities, it's God, my wife, my kids, my job, my family, my friends, and THEN myself.

No offense, but you sound selfish. I hope that you change your list of priorities to put your kids before yourself.

asshole. do you know how hard it is to be a single mom? at least you don't have to work AND take care of kids. i don't know how old your kids are, if they're old enough to be in school that makes it a little easier on the custodial parent, but if they're babies or toddlers..preschool is expensive. and if you can't afford preschool then you can't work because you have to take care of your kids. You obviously don't have custody so you have all your time to work. you may have bills, but she has bills and kids. i get child support and it helps out so much right now, even though I plan on taking him to court to get his rights terminated. Then he'll be out of our lives forever. if you don't want to pay child support i suggest you sign over your parental rights also.

"Why do I have to pay child support? " Because you phucked their mother and now have to pay for it whether they are a priority for you or not. It's called RESPONSILBITY. But you could NOT pay it then have the irs take any refunds you have coming to pay for it plus have your wages garnished (funny thing about employers they tend to frown upon employees who have their wages garnished for non support of their children, sometimes it results in a demotion.) Any winnings you get will be turned over to the IRS first to pay your child support, if you win a prize such as a car the IRS will take it and sell it off in order to pay your child support. Of course they can also throw your butt into jail...now WHY do you HAVE to pay child support huh?

Well first of all because you had sex without using your brain and got someone pregnant. Now it looks as though you might have to give up your beer habit and move into a shack. and fix it so you don't have any more kids, because if you have them you must take care of them, the world does not need anymore deadbeat dads.
