Yeah Corey Stringer of the Vikings died in practice a few years back. I can imagine their are a few guys that are paralized from game injuries. There are even some guys who didnt suffer major injuries while playing but because of all the contact their bodies took over the years they have serious problems that lead to paralization.

No one has died from a game induced injury in the modern NFL, but the Lions had a lineman get paralyzed during a game and the 49ers and Vikings each lost a player during practices.
There is lots of evidence though that playing in the NFL can drastically reduce your lifespan.

Deaths in football were pretty common in the earlier years of the league. Around the WW1 era and the early 1920s as many as 18 players died on the field. This was due to players either not wearing helmets at all or if they did they were those flimsy leather deals which only meant it was easier for the coroner to find all the pieces of the guy's skull.

Also there weren't very many rules about protecting the ball carrier basically anything went. WWE style Clotheslines, slapping guys in the head, it was all legal.

Then president Theodore Roosevelt was planning to outlaw football altogether.

Michael Irvin and the player from the Detroit Lions. All Neck injuries. One even paralyzed. Or if you want to call exhaustion a injury but 2 pro players have died from that in back to back seasons, Vikings and 49ers.
