Self-righteousness. We believe we have the right to have children and raise them however we like no matter what.
I agree with what you have said. Children raised to know how much they are loved won't have to act out in dangerous ways. We focus too much on discipline, though. It's easier. That's all. It's just easier. Then we are too proud to even realise when it is so obviously ineffective.
I suggest we raise our children as if they are Jesus (or whatever equivalent of a Messiah your religion might have). Pay them that much respect and treat them with that much love. Understand that even a two year old Jesus would have the attention span of a gnat and would find it really fun to realise he can say "no."
Would you teach your child to learn out of fear rather than understanding if she were the embodiment of god? Isn't every child a part of god?
Each child should be that precious.

It would probably help you make your point if you mentioned a time when kids were put in harmful situations. Perhaps the children of Iraq, or that America is not sending enough aid to the starving children around the world.
I hope you realize that when you refer to America you're referring to an entire continent. If you're referring to the U.S. then I can help you there.
I'm a United States citizen and don't really see how we're so "violent and careless" toward children anymore than any other nation. I'm yet to see a child killed because of gender, a common practice in China. I haven't seen a malnourished child die, although over 1 million die worldwide.
As for the children of Iraq, can you name a single war where a single civilian went unharmed? Can you prove it?
As for aiding the hungry, how do you suggest we alter the national budget to send money overseas while digging ourselves out of the trillion dollars of debt that our nation is in?
If you have any suggestions post them, I'll write my congressman. Where are you from, how are children treated there? How should a child be treated? I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just naturally a prick, I sincerely would appreciate a response.

I don't see what you mean "America".
WHO puts the kids in "the middle of a harmful situation"?
What do you mean "we" should show love,... ?
It seems that you're referring to some injustice and you feel that it's America's fault. This country had done more to help children around the world than ANY other. EVEN the children of countries that HATE US.
What ELSE do you want America to do that is not being done???

You mean like Darfur, North Korea , & China ? There are no Godly Morals taught anymore , and God is being taken out of everyday life all over the world ! It is not confined to America .!! You hear about it more in America because of freedom of speech ! You won`t hear of this in the other countries mentioned above , because their governments control what is printed and reported ! Go to the old Russian eastern european countries that were under their control and ask about kids being deserted by their families and are living in underground sewers . Hey pal , there`s a whole world involved in this issue , so get off your bash America soapbox .

I'd like to know how you've made your analysis
Yes, why can't we go back to the time when corporal punishment was the norm and children from poor families worked in mines. Oh, the good old days, what ever happened to them.

The nasty little secret is that Americans don't really like children. They find them noisy and demanding and apt to disrupt the typical American self-gratificatiion and self-absorbtion.

Because of how selfish society has become. All mean acts are spelled s-e-l-f-i-s-h. Children are put behind our own wants and desires.

I don't know - that's a pretty radical position. ;)
America has become violent because we're idle and ignorant and jaded. I think that's it in a nutshell.
