Your swing is probably your most important quality when it comes to baseball. If you have the option of getting lessons, follow through with your commitment, and do what your instructer tells you to do. If not, there are several drills you can do to improve your swing.
You first need to find a level swing that keeps you balanced, but still gives you power. You can find this balance by hitting off of a tee, or a hit-away, a product that is relativly effective in practicing your swing, but there are higher level products on the market. You can also work on your coordination with a wooden dowel and practice golf balls; they are tiny, and very hard to hit. If you have somebody with you, have them pitch them to you, this is very effective in improving your swing
Your catch is something that you can work on by just having a catch with one of your friends or teamates. Just make sure you warm up well.

Practice alone wont give you the best results. You need to be practicing properly. You need to get a coach to look at your swing and make sure your mechanics are correct. The coach will show you mini drills to do to get the mechanics correct. once you have them down just start hitting balls every day. if you can go to a batting cage. And hit of a T.
As for catching you just have to keep playing catch. For ground balls you can use a tenis ball or raquet ball and bounce it off a wall then practice the proper fielding techniques.
If you cant get a coach to help you out then practicing on your own will definately help its just not the best way.

practice swinging a bat about 100 times 3 days a week. Make sure you swing level. And work on your bat-speed. When you catch, use two hands to catch it

a great drill for batting is to put a bad at you waist and stand the length of the bat from a chain link fence. Swing away without hitting the fence. This will force you to snap the bat with your wrists at the height of your swing right when you would contact the ball.
Soft toss and tee work are great for practicing good contact.. Practice watching the ball as it comes at you, you should be able to see the rotation, which will tell you what kind of pitch is coming at you.. good luck this season.

Use a tee. Seems little league-ish, but it is the best tool out there to level your swing. Use a bat that is light enough for you to snap with your wrists, and long enough to reach a couple inches over the plate. Preferably a 34 inch 31 ounce bat. If you are using wood, go with maple, a litle pricier, but lighter and more pop than ash.
As for your catch, it depends on the position you play. Outfield, track the ball, simple as that, take a couple steps back before you run in. Infield, quick, and always on your toes. Catcher, tricky, gotta go over with you that in person. (I was a catcher n the European Leagues.)

you can work on your catching all day just go bare handed and use tennis balls do just about anything you can think of that takes hand eye cordination, and with your hitting make sure you have someone that knows what there doing with you so you dont get bad habbits started i use to do it ever year, i would start hitting good then go out and hit off the tee even tho i thought i was doing it right i would end up screwing my self up, now im only 15 but this year i did it again but i caught it before it got to bad and was able to fix it.
