Two weeks in Darwin is quite a long time. There is not actually much to do or see in Drwin itself
The local tourism industry is based upon tours out and around the Northern Territory. The main ones of these are tours of Litchfield National Park and Kakadu National Park
Litchfield is nice and close to Darwin and can be seen in a day trip if you rush through or with an overnight stay there is more to do. Litchfield has a number of natural waterfalls and waterholes where swimming is croc free and safe
Kakadu will require you to spend a bit more time 3-4 days. Sadly most of the really good sites in Kakadu are 4wd only and you will need to be part of a guided tour. And be careful where you swim. Tourists make nice crocodile snacks :P
Around Darwin itself sadly there are no good beaches like you would see in Broome for swimming or play. Darwin waters are notorious for Stingers (Jellyfish). Deadly in the wet season. Though there numbers drop of considerably over the dry season May-Oct and locals can be quite often seen out in the water
Attractions you could take in around Darwin itself include
Mindil Beach markets - food and craft stalls
Parap Markets - food and craft stalls
Aviation Museum
Indo-Pacfic Marine - indoor reef display
War Museum and East point reserve
NT Museum
Harbour Cruise
Stokes Hill wharf eatery area
Cullen Bay restaurant area
Fish Feeding by hand
Outdoor Deckchair Cinema

There's some really good fishing up there, but if you're not into that, then you'll probably want to see some of Australia's natural beauty.
It's best to book a tour, so the transport and timing is all arranged for you.
Don't count on too many exciting things in Darwin itself, the city is not that special.
And don't park your car, if you get one, under the coconut trees!!!
Here's a site where you can get a look at what you might want to see!

Happy Holiday! I'll be freezing down in Melbourne!

Litchfield National Park, for great camping, fantastic waterfalls and croc free swimming. Mataranka for the brilliant thermal pool (and the good grub at the pub!) Mindle Beach Markets for a little culture, with a Darwiny, Asian flavour at sunset, East Point for a little military history, Fanny Bay Gaol for its Cyclone Tracy exhibit and museum.
I could go on, but it would take all day, theres a ton to see and do in Darwin and the surrounding areas!

Territory Wildlife Park is great.
Windows on the Wetlands on the way to Kakadu is great.
And, of course, Kakadu National Park is wonderful.
