Socrates view on chit chat: Is it true? will it benefit the person you are talking to? is it kind?
It's not necessary to talk about every feeling to every person. It's OK to shut up and pray too. Sometimes talking about things can make it worse. I sometimes find it better to do something, instead of talk.

Pride. We all would like to believe that we fit into the category that doesn't exist. The one where there are no problems and everything is perfect. We'd all like to be seen as strong. We'd all like to be seen as having the 'perfect' life. We put on a face to the world, but it is not our real one.
The older you get, the more you realize that everyone is going through as much or more crap than you are. You realize that 'to err is human'. You realize that everyone else has as many issues as you do, and you wonder why we created a society where people felt stronger for suppressing their problems and pretending they didn't exist.
In the end, it's the people who reach out for help who are the strongest - but we don't discover that until it's much too late. We all need someone to listen to us, and we should not feel bad about having problems.

Everyone is different. One, i feel that if you haven't walked in a person's shoes, you really can't help them. Two, most people won't take your advice for their problems. Third, usually when people are stressing about their problems it is about something that can be changed. Instead of all that complaining, MAKE SOME FREAKIN' CHANGES. Also, many people don't want to be criticized for what is on their mind. HOPE THIS HELPS

Everyone is afraid of being judged by others. Keeping things in keeps you from having to admit that you have fears....fear makes you weak in the eyes of our society. But, because society has placed these barriers on us without our consent, we are raised to believe that our feelings are supposed to be repressed and not shared with others. It's sad....and is why we have so many kids that blow up at the world or kill themselves...and people going into work places and shooting co workers....

Because if they talk about it then they are admitting they have a problem, and many people who have some kind of problem are unable to find ways to handle them. So they keep denying it and never really come to terms that they do have one.

Probably because they are afraid of being ridiculed. Some things are better kept private anyway.

You do realize that some folks are at peace with themselves and have little need to speak spuriously or intensely?

Either they're in denial or they don't feel comfortable discussing their situation.
