My wife an I brought a child abandoned in China into our home when I was already past middle age. It was she that gifted us with love.

It won't seem much by most standards but for me it was harder than giving a million dollars.

I'm a die-hard introvert. Spending time, socially, with others is difficult. Doing so more than once or twice a week is just physically and emotionally exhausting.

One of my closest friends was dumped by her fiance. Her roommate was out of town for the week so I stayed with her the entire week. She didn't want to be alone for a minute and I made sure she wasn't.

She didn't even need to ask me to. We spent the week talking, eating chocolates and, yes, shopping.

I'm sure I've done things others would consider far more generous for someone I loved but that was the hardest and most rewarding for me. Just to be able to be there for someone you care about so much in such a difficult time. I'd have given her a month, more, even, if she needed it.

Good friends are the people you make sacrifices for that you can never really consider sacrifices.

My wife is deceased.
I'm a widower.
I kept my vow to be with her no matter what.
(If you ask the greatest thing I done concerning the person I loved).
