Every person has a dream of of finding that person of his / her dream and living happily after. It is an ideal state attained only by a very, very few people in this world.

The dizzy, powerful emotions of a young love governed by sexual passion sounds great but , as we all see it , does not last long. The hollywood stars are a a great example of this behaviour. Yet there are a few, too few, who are a shining example of the deeper emotion of long lasting love.

For me, I am married, and the children are adults . Until today I still cherish the real love of my life whom I met about 35 years ago and now in another country, also with a child who is now adult.
That love is soothing, yet powerful and all encompassing. That love that I cherish , in my part of the world , makes me strong in all that I do...to love and care for my wife and family.
That is the greatest that I have done by love. .

There is a man I have loved for many years as did he love me. THe world got in the way and he left me at the altar. I really did understand and wished him happiness but my heart crashed. I compare all men to him.

A month ago he confided to me that he wished a mutual friend to marry him. He asked me to be his advocate because she kept turning him down. I spoke to her for him because I still want him happy. If it is not me, well, I will survive but I care for his happiness. He gave me so much over the years.

And she deserves the love of a man who will treat her well. She accepted him. I have been listening to them mention each other and it is like a knife at times. Twice I have had to say, Please, don't talk about that. I am glad they are happy. But at what price to my own heart?

I spent thousands fighting to stay by my daughter's side during a horribly painful and terrifying divorce. There was no way I'd leave her, and I'd have rather died than be a "weekends only" dad who cut a check for the kid and didn't care about the rest.

I've been with my daughter during sickness, school, parties, fears, joys, tears, and everything else that came with being a single dad, and I'd do it all over again. Every time she hugs me and says "I love you Daddy", I'm reminded that it was all worth it.
