i dont have the numbers to the right, just across the top. how can i type in spanish and all the accents with a laptop??

When you're typing in Word, you can hit Insert, Symbol or Special Character, and there within the list are a bunch of accented letters from multiple languages.

you could enable spanish input in XP under Control Panel/ Regional and Language Options/ click the "Languages" tab, then the advanced button, click the "add" button, then pick "Spanish" from the top dropdown menu, then click OK. Then you get a little EN (for English) in your icon tray. hold alt+shift to switch to ES (for Spanish) some of your keys are in different places, so you might try experimenting with different keyboards in the dropdown menu
