I recently travelled to Ethiopia, and even with all the disease and famine, I saw one theme: people sticking together to help each other and keep their communities going.

Once you see that, and then return to the USA and see us bickering over spending an additional 100 dollars a year to help others with healthcare, well, it makes you wonder...

Its easy enough to just say 'go back there then', but that leaves you unenlightened.

The big difference in what you saw there and what you see here is cultural. They are helping each other voluntarily, because they want to, and there is social pressure to do so. (Peer pressure can be positive as well as negative.)

Theres a big difference between helping a family member out of tight spot and the government telling me I must help every person on Earth. Nothing irks me like seeing some politician hop out of a limo and tell me I don't do enough because ONLY 50% of my income goes to support the government.

no it is way off from being the richest place to live. the standard of living is far from the top.
you have no health care for all . such as Canada.
in some middle easter oil rich places all phone calls are free all university all drugs. all people get about 25000 dollars a year free. gas is free water and hydro are free. this is one of the kuwait and the uae countries but there are similar things in other rich countries.

If wealth is measured in GDP as it usually is then yes without question. In fact it's 4X second place Japan
