It seems to me like a lot of people make rude comments when they've been drinking and later excuse it by saying that they couldn't help it because they were drunk. I'll admit that I act pretty silly when I'm drunk, but I still know what I am saying and doing. I still know not to cross certain lines such as telling somebody they are fat, making racist remarks, etc. Does anybody else think that people are just using drinking as an excuse to say and do the things they want to anyway? If you have said something dumb while drinking, did you really mean it...even if maybe you pretended not to later?

OK.... for those who claim that "the truth comes out when you're drunk" ........you're full of wishful hopes and full of crap at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been drunk numerous times and have said and done things under that influence that have absolutely nothing to do with me, my opinion, character, beliefs, personality etc. etc. etc................................ In fact I've told the people I really care most about that I hate them (so I'm told.... - blackouts are also a common side effect). I do not hate any of these people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've insulted friends and family and acted like a complete idiot and I swear on my life that that is NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So....... if I told you........ - sorry for being such an idiot last night because I was drunk - or whatever.........- BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really am sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when people get drunk, - really drunk they "black out" meaning that they do and say things that are totally out of character! I cannot tell you how many times I've woken up the next day - or the day after with a bunch of people really pissed off at me for things that I've done and - or said..... - Only - I have absoloutely no memory of such events!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing tough..................... I hardly drink...... - only when I'm amongst friends who drink -but then I seem to go overboard..........................

There is a huge difference between a alcoholic and someone who has a few too many sometimes. Drinking does not excuse behaviour but if they apologise for saying anything wrong because they were drinking too much, just accept it and put it in the past. With an alcoholic there can be a whole personality change causing erratic behaviour, verbal and physical abuse, they should not be excused but supported into getting help. As a recovering alcoholic, not ashamed as at least I found out I was not going insane, I did and said some horrendous things, things I would never dream of doing or saying sober

I think that people get drunk or even pretend to be drunk to hide from who they really are and do things they wouldn't otherwise do. So yeah, if someone makes a rude remark and then says you can't blame them because they were drunk, you most certainly can because 1) they made the choice to drink and 2) they probably know that they act badly when they have been drinking.

Its a poor excuse as well, but many people don't mean the things they say.

Definety, you are right that people use drinking as an excuse to do wrong thing. Actually short time after drinking you feel thrillings ,but it doesnt mean that it bloks your mind to be completely dumb. In the next part of drinking you became so tired that you can,t even think of doing anything wrong. you can't even think to bully a person uselessly. Because to do so your mind do need huge amount of thinking which you were not able to do. we cannt even control our body well so how can we think to speak any thing wrong to a person. every thing we do in the fierst stage of drinking in which our mind is quite able to think and I am not afraid to say it that we do every thing very thought fully and utilise this opportunity(drinking) to say something bad to any body explicitly.

Whatever someone says when they are drunk, has already occured to them to say when they were sober. People usuallly say what they mean to say, drunk or sober. Alcohol can lower some people's inhibitions but the ideas that come out are already there. Yes. Some try to use alcohol as an excuse but it is not a good excuse to insult anyone and it is unacceptable..

Most people use DRINKING as an excuse for WHY they did dumb things.

I can't think of anything that I ever said when I was drunk that I DID NOT hold as my belief. Some of these things I regret, mostly because it made me look stupid. There are a number of things that I "believe" but should keep to myself. When you're drunk your judgment takes a nosedive and some of these things "slip out".

in general, people tend to say and do things that they think about doing or saying when they are sober but haven't got the guts. That way, no matter what they do or say, they now have a built in excuse for their bad behaviour. Pretty sad I would say. I have found out that it is just too easy to be able to do or say what I have to when I am sober. Then I can take credit for the good and flak for the bad but now I don't need any excuses.

I think some people do. But some people are blacked out and have no idea what they said. not that this an excuse. Drinking lowers peoples inhibitions and they do things they would never do sober.
