AMD has always been known for being a gaming powerhouse, where intel was best for practically everything else, which is why intel rules the market, how many gamers are there, only about 10% of the computer industry.......
If your looking for a cheaper processor that is well known for gaming performance, AMD all the way.
Although Intel has made some very nice processors lately.......

I have no idea what everyone else is on about, but the top performing processor ATM is as much as I hate to say it being a devout AMD fan, is the Intel Core 2 Duo, if you don't believe me look up AMD FX-70, AMD Athlon 6000+, and so on, even the best AMD's atm can't beat the core 2 duo.
I'm answering this on an AMD 3800+ single core oc'ed to 2.6ghz on stock cooling, hardly an impressive feat but the best my mobo can achieve.
Anyway if you want the best sorta price to performance ratio I would go for AMD cos you only get like 5 FPS more in games sometimes.
On the other hand if you have the $$$ and really want the best performance then you should go for a Core2Duo.

I'm torn on this one. AMD processors are great for the money, but there are some fantastic deals on the Intel side of things. If you're looking to spend less than 100$ on a processor, the AMD64 X2 processors are probably the ticket. However, if you want more performance (and I do mean a LOT more performance), for about 70$ more, you can get the Intel Core2 Duo e6300, which is a true gem of a processor. It's effortlessly easy to overclock these chips to 2.4, 2.6, even as high as 3.2GHz stable.
I personally would take the route of using Intel chipsets, as I've had such good luck with my e6300.

I was in your position once, and I have to say that there is little difference when it comes to performance. AMD is the better deal due to the price. Intel has the years of performance to back it up. After reading all the "expert" advice on the internet, I chose AMD. I've used both Intel and AMD and quite frankly, I've yet to have a problem with AMD. Go with the x2 series. I've got Athalon 64 3800 and so far it has kicked my P4's butt.

My computing device is quick and that i'm an AMD man or woman, quite usually for cost. Many confusing middle activity enthusiasts flow for Intel and the final public say Intel is swifter. I examine lots about computers and gaming computers because it truly is my activity and that i'm retired with various time. My computing device passes all criteria on the hot video games I particularly have checked, how ever there is one it truly is amazingly ability hungry that i visit play at midrange. I particularly have a 128GB SSD that eliminated my bottleneck, an FX-4100 cpu AMD, 8GB of DDR1600--both computers you designed at PartsPicker look rather equivalent to me. in case you are able to manage to pay for fairly more suitable flow up a notch to an i5 middle, in case you are able to. The 6 middle Amd will in reality use 4 cores for gaming as video games are made that way for now. The 4170 AMD is a quadcore 4.2 GHZ which i could use if I were to configure one on aspects picker and determined to flow with AMD.---Canirunit--is the perfect web site for checking gaming ability when you purchase one, it truly is loose, ordinary, precise, and no secret agent ware or malware.

If you're on a budget, get an AMD Athlon X2. The 3600+ costs under $100 at Newegg and will still deliver great performance in games.

Depends on what kind of performance you want. For games that need raw cpu clock speed, AMD is a good buy. For horsepower for complex programs like photoshop or server use, Intel.
