In your judgement, at what age should a person be able to get their license?

Anyone out there have some interesting experiences behind the wheel? I believe 18 is the proper age, by that time most students are in college.

What do you think a person should undergo to get their license?

I believe 18 is a good age also. And everyone should have to take a course in defensive driving, just to be able to avoid some of the crazy drivers on the road.

I agree with you; I think 15 and 16 is way too young. There have recently been a lot of young teens killed in our town for speeding or drunk driving which is such a shame. I think 18 would be an appropriate age, and continue to have probably an extra year prior for a practice permit prior to that, so at age 17 allow a teen to drive with an adult in the car to allow them to practice their driving, but only with an adult! No cars full of 16 year olds speeding or drunk driving, which is how many of the accidents have occurred in our town.

I have to admit, that I was not that great a driver myself until I was 18 and at college also. I just think you get a little more maturity once you are 18 or even 19, that you don't have as a young 16 or 17 year old, you realize you need to slow down, you have a better attention span, etc. or at least the majority of 16 or 17 year olds.

Of course, we also have the problem in my state (Florida) with people driving that are too old as well. We often have friends that are worried because family members are still driving that can barely see! They also need to probably tighten up on the rules and ages on that, as there have been several incidents in our state in which the elderly have mowed over and killed pedestrians when they have confused the brakes and gas or been trying to park and hit people.

I think family members should report their blind family members that are still driving, but when they don't, the licensing bureau should probably periodically every two or 3 years do eye checks when people are in their 70s, 80s, and 90s and maybe driving tests every 5 years or so at that point. It may be an inconvenience, but if it saves peoples lives, I think it should be done.

I am a mom of 5. So far I have had two going thru the license thngy. My oldest was too afraid to drive. He practiced on his permit from 16-18. The day before his 18th b-day he finally took his drivers test and passed. My 16 yr old is more enthused about driving. He only has 8 more hours driving with me left to go before starting his 24 hrs of class room time then finishing up with 8 more hours of driving time with a professional. Our state has very strict guidelines for getting your license. I agree with them too. But to wait til the child is already 18 before all this training begins is not gonna ever happen. All the accidents that are caused by 16-18 yr olds would then be caused by 18-20 yr olds. These accidents are caused by inexperience. I know 40 yr old ppl who are MORE immature than my two teens! Age is not a way to tell maturity but in the actions of the person in question. College is usually ONE BIG PARTY for several thousands of students who are not paying their own way! To just get a drivers license and not be living at home...is MORE dangerous then lending a 16 yr old the keys to your car to go to work. It's the parents NOT the kids fault. We parents need to be very strict about driving privileges. It is not their "right" to drive but a privilege to drive. Strong consequenses for wrong doing when it comes to the car. AND NO child should have a NEW car at 16! That teaches them NOTHING about earning a new car by showing their parents an excellent driving record! If they are going to have an accident it would occur most likely during the first two yrs of operating a vehicle. Why make it a new one? NO child should have a car that can go more than 55 mph. They are new drivers and high speeds should be OFF limits. The state can not step in where the parents should already be!

I'm going to start teaching my son to drive about age 8 or so. I don't think he should be licensed until he's 16 or older, but by then he'll have the rules of the road down and some experience. I'd like to be able to give him a car on birthday #16 and not have to worry so much about how safe he is.

I want him to be as independent as possible as early as possible and be responsible enough to handle it. This is entirely the responsibility of the parents, and most are just too lazy to train their kids to be adults.

Right now: 5 years old and learning 6-year-old material in home schooling. Off to a slow start.

this could have been one in all your greater effective questions. yet as quickly as back you failed when you consider which you went off of your concentration. Police shooting 2 twelve months olds. Wow, that's dramatic. yet you haven't any longer have been given any tips that this ever got here approximately. The examples you write approximately (a million no longer in US and a pair of in US) are approximately 13 twelve months olds. a a procedures cry from a 2 twelve months previous. I, have faith that if I have been confronted with the alternative of shooting a 13 twelve months previous to the two save my very very own existence or yet another-i might shoot. i might even do it interior the protection of you. As for shooting 10 rounds right into a guy or woman. You shoot until finally the possibility is not any longer. I even have viewed human beings shot as much as twenty-30 circumstances. once you have an energetic shooter you do no longer quit until he stops. you do no longer recognize if the shooter is on drugs, etc. i'm no longer able to assert that i recognize of an incident while somebody replaced into shot one hundred circumstances. so which you will could desire to the two arise with the story or supply up being a drama queen. Have a great day!

I think 16-17 is appropriate.

At 18 one is a legal adult and there is no choice but to allow adults to drive in order to facilitate their abillity to hold an occupation.

I might, however, support driving retesting in 10 or 15 year intervals. I think it would help weed out poor elderly drivers as well as reinforce the laws of the road.
