Saved my 1-year-old boy from choking on a dried apricot. I was in the kitchen when I felt this little tug on my pant leg, and there he was, looking up at me, gasping. I leaned over, ran my fingers until my hand was aligned right above his stomach, and pushed hard, forcing the apricot out and onto the floor.
I had a mild breakdown about 5 minutes later, but was actually pretty calm during the event itself.
RUNNER-UP (which I remembered first): I once jumped into a swimming pool to save my wife's drowning cat. He was wet and pathetic, but fine.

In sept of 2006, I was on my way to school and there was a horrific accident and when I came upon it there was a group of 20 or so of kids that had stopped and the car was on fire and I pulled over got out, ran to the house it was near and got a trash can full of water and myself and another gentleman proceeded to put the fire out, I then tried to get a pulse on the passenger who started to shake very slightly; unfortunately both the driver age 17 and the passenger age 16 were killed but I was later told by a fireman that had I not taken such quick action to put the fire out, the gas tank had been punctured and if it had gotten lanother 2 ft closer the car would have exploded which could have killed or seriously injured the group of 20 or more kids that were watching. I have since joined our local chapter of CERT (community emergency response team) and have also received CPR training. As well as carry a fire extinguisher in my vehicle.

I got in a 3 ft deep channel in a water park where you float in tubes and go Around the park.I was floating by and there where at least 30 people in the channel where I was ,nobody noticed a girl of about 7 yrs old trying to get out .The current was to strong it was pulling her away from the stairs to get out..She couldn't hang on the side of the channel with small hands, she shouldn't have been in the channel.I jumped off the tube fought to get there I grabbed her and held her until I got to a stair case on the opposite side. She could have drowned.
Nobody but me noticed her.Where were her parents.

This is the 3rd question that I've answered where this came up...but here goes again... I was a voluteer fire-fighter, and with another fire-fighter, pulled 2 kids and their Mom from the second floor of a fully involved burning house !! What an adrenaline rush !!!
We also saved a family of cats and some rabbits too!!

Stopped a stack of plywood from tipping over on my cousin. Tore all the ligaments in my ankles and screwed my back. It must have weighed 2 tons, she was just little and would have been squashed. Mental heroics is a different story I don't wish to share here.

I'm pretty sure the most heroic thing I will do is have kids. But I'm not there yet, and so far I helped my mother save my brother from drowning once. I'm sure she could've done it herself, but there's no way I'd ever take that kind of risk. I also like to think that I could've helped people in life and not even be aware of it. I try to be there for those around me, so hopefully I've made a difference in someone's life for the better.

A stray cat came to our house 2 days in a row (in Winter) and was meowing at our door for food. We gave her food the first day and she was on her way, the second day she came, after she was done eating, she was meowing for warmth so we brought her in. We put up flyers to see if she belonged to anyone but nobody claimed her so we kept her. This was 10 years ago and she is still a very important part of our family.

My daughter ran into the street in front of a car when she was 3 years old. I ran right after her and we were both nearly killed. My daughters Aunt was there and she never got over what she saw. When it is a matter of life and death with someone you love you just don't think. For that matter if it were to happen to a stranger we should do the same.

I don't know.Ask people who know me, maybe they think I've done something heroic.
Look, everyone think saving a life or something of that sort is heroic but I think changing a person's life for the better, giving someone hope when they think they have hit rock bottom, showing love and care and just a presence of a person can be heroic. And most of these aren't praised and acknowleged as such.

Well , that's a very good Question.I guess saving someones life.It would take to long to tell you,but helping with translation was the key.Without my help a man would have died,I can't say how good it felt ...later that day.But the EMT people still talk about it.It was and still is a great day ,especially for him and his family!!!
