I had a pay as you go phone before, so allow me to assist you. I don't believe that you are aloud to use cell phones on planes because it may interfere with their equipment, but I am not sure about this, the rules may have changed. Min cards range from $20-$150, you will have to see what is right for you. You also have to buy the prepaid phone too. The phone will range from $30-$200 depending on what brand and company your prepaid phone is. Since you are only going to use it on the chip, just stick with a cheaper phone. The prepaid phone will probably come with 10-50 min, when you activate it for your first time. The two popular prepaid phones are virgin mobile and trac phone. Trac phone has cheaper phones and phone cards, but the quality is not as good and you may experience more drop calls. Virgin Mobile is 10 cents a min, but has better quality and less drop calls. Yes it would be worth the money.

OK, I will give you four recommendations from my experience with prepaid mobile phones (a.k.a. "pay-as-you-go"):

1) Alltel U (www.alltelu.com) where for 75 cents/day you can chose between two out of four options: Unlimited Mobile-to-Mobile with Alltel Customers, Unlimited Nights and Weekends, Unlimited Calling to a Fav Number, and Unlimited Text Messaging. If you want to add the other two, it will cost you 25 cents a day. Roaming out of the network will cost you which its rare to roam off the network. In fact, its the only prepaid mobile carrier where you can roam on other network. They got a lot of camera phones. It cost ten cents a minute to make cellular calls. Downside is an activation fee but its the best prepaid mobile phone out there and the cheapest in the long run, in my opinion. RECOMMENDATION: Unlimited Nights and Weekends & Unlimited Text Messaging...again, only 75 cents a day.

2) Boost Mobile (www.boostmobile.com) which for a $1.00 a day you can get unlimited walkie-talkie with other Boost and even Nextel subscribers! Cellular calling is 10 cents a minute to Nextel, Sprint, and other Boost subscribers. 10 cents a minute between 9 p.m. -- 5:59 a.m. 20 cents a minute any other time. Text Messaging is free to receive, 10 cents to send. Three camera phones: i885, i875, and i855. They also have Boost Premium Plan (I don't recommend it).

3) CingularGo (www.cingular.com), which has two plans to chose from. One is where you pay 25 cents a minute all day every day. Another is where a $1.00 day access fee gives you unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling to Cingular customers and 10 cents a minute all day every day to others. Text Messaging is 10 cents to send, free to receive. They have camera phones.

4) T-Mobile To Go (www.tmobile.com), which the best deal is a $100.00 card because you get 1,000 minutes. The lower the cash card the higher you pay for a bucket of minutes. Text Messaging is 10 cents to send, free to receive. They have camera phones. The Sidekick 3, which cost the prepaid customer I think $299.99, will cost you a dollar a day plus the minutes.

As far as I know you are not allowed to use mobile phones on the airplane but there is talk in Washington where they are going to change that. However, as for the mobile phones, its worth it. But it depends on where you're going. Granted AlltelU is the best to use within the United States. You cannot use it outside the U.S. because it runs on the CDMA network. You cannot use Boost Mobile outside the United States because it runs on the IDEN network. Cingular and T-Mobile you can use outside the U.S. because it has GSM. GSM is used throughout the world.

Thus, if you are vacationing within the United States, I personally recommend AlltelU. If you are going outside the U.S., you're best bet is either Cingular or T-Mobile. Happy vacationing! :-)

Definately worth it but you will want something cooler later. Pay as you go phones have come a long way in a short time frame. Flip, camera, etc. You will probaby do better buying a disposable camera have them developed digitally from Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, or Costco. Take your time and get a cool cell phone with a rate plan you will really be able to pay for and enjoy.

You can't use a cell phone while you are on the plane. Pay as you go phones come in all different types, so you can choose a camera phone if you want. My stepdaughter bought 300 minutes for $50 & it only lasted her about 2 weeks. Be careful, though, because if you don't keep adding minutes to your phone, it will be disabled after a certain period of time. If you think you're going to want to keep using the phone after the trip, you might want to consider shopping around for a plan. Pay as you go is really only cost effective if you truly plan to only use the phone for a brief time.

I like tracfone's myself, and 'yes' you can text message your friends with these types of fones! So go righ ahead and begin your texting, hun!!! I dont think they come in camera features, however..... But, they do have games, and different dial-tones, and their just great, because you dont get a phone bill with them.. and you just simply pay as you go!! With no stress, about how to pay the bill, you know...Yes, there "Great" for traveling, with!! You have made a "Wise" choice by getting this type of phone, for all of the above queston's you asked, except for the camera... there's none with camera's that I know of, just yet,.......However, I wouldn't be surprised if down the line they do come out with them with camera's added as a "Bonus-Feature" they'll end up costing more, but it would be nice, if they do end up getting them, on there, dont you agree? Otherwise, while your on vacation, just get you a "Portable-Camera" the kind where you put the whole thing in the shop!! Then that way you'lll have both!! Enjoy your vacation! Have fun, hun!! Smile!!!!

Better do some research before you buy because some companies still charge more if your phone is not in your local calling range. My mom used hers to call from out of state and it cost a LOT more, wasnt worth it, she could have called collect cheaper.
