You can't get aids or other venereal disease from masturbating to pornography; whereas, you can with sexual intercourse. At least, that's part of it.

Pornography went through long hard fights in the US Supreme Court for many years. In the 60's-70's a lot of rulings were made where they decided that it was partly free speech and partly right to privacy and that the state had no business telling adults whether they could OWN pornography.
That said, the women making the pornography are basically prostitutes. I am not sure how they get around basic anti-prostitution laws. There must be some way that they work the books so they are not paid for having sex but rather for proceeds on a "work of art" or something like that.

That STDs thing is bullshit. Yeah, a person watching pornography won't get an STD by masterbating, but the people in the porn can!!! The people having sex in the porn movies are prostitutes!!! They are the ones that get the STDs! Porn is an indirect form of prostitution. Anyway, the "porn stars" get an STD and can spread it to others, like boyfriends/girlfriends, husbands/wives, people they have one-night-stands with, and people they have sex with in general.
Just wanted to say that and bring it to light.

Politicians prefer porn over prostitution. lol. But the real reason might have something to do with how hard it would be to shut down the pornography business.

In truth , i think ,morality aside, that if states cannot get money
in the form of taxes from the prostitutes, then they do not want a business out there that is not regulated.Plus there are STDs

Social morality dictates what is legal and what is not legal. Societal norms are based on conceptional bearings.
