San Diego is known for its mild year round weather. It's not so cold in the winter but not as hot in the summer as some cities. It has lots of beaches. For info on San Diego beaches go to http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/romantic-beaches-in-san-diego.html

Laguna Beach may be more famous because of the reality show taped there....or Malibu....or Venice Beach.

Best wishes with your novel!

Phoenix has neither sandy beaches nor warm, clear water (unless you count Lake Havasu), so I'm not sure why someone would have suggested that to you.

My first thought would be somewhere in Hawaii, like Waikiki.

Florida, especially Miami. The heat isn't blistering so much as sweltering in FL.

California has very cold water by the way.

I read your story and was going to suggest San Diego, California, rather than Phoenix for an ocean side setting.

During Santa Ana Conditions, which seem to be often, it gets pretty hot in Southern California. Malibu might be a good setting for your story.

St. Simon's Island, Georgia and Jekyll Island, Georgia. Beautiful places with lots and lots of history. However, there are still historical districts still there and they both can have very romantic settings. It's all according what kind of book you are writing.

Daytona, Florida's pretty fun, St. Augustine's better in my opinion though. It gets pretty hot during the summer oftentimes in the 90's so shoot for spring or fall if you're afraid of hot.
