Yes you can, but you could check how much heat both processors give off. If the core 2 gives of too much heat, you may overheat your laptop. As a side note, my friend safely upgraded his core duo macbook to a core 2 duo. I'm not sure to what GHZ though.

Not easily because you would probably need a new motherboard. Laptop parts are expencive, small, processors and motherboards are not easy for most people to get, and they are fiddly to work with so it is very hard. The 1.73ghz duel core should be enough because it is still a powerful processor

Even if you did You still have the speed of the hard drive to contend with so why bother? now forgive me if you can afford a computer laptop with 4 drives that are running on a raid card but even if you have a bus speed of 400ms the duel core still has to write to one drive and it is the thing slowing you down except video card, why? do this just curious??

Why upgrade your CPU when it is the same price, or probably more, as brand new PC? Note that just the CPU alone costs over $$500
